Hi everyone! I'm attempting to register for an online microbiology course (with lab) and am having a bit of a tough time figuring out which one to choose.
I have heard about one from Ocean County Comm College in NJ, Clakamas and CCConline. Has anyone taken microbio at any of them?
Thank you!

I just finished Micro through ccconline. Great class - I haven't gotten my final grades, but unless fail to pull out 10 points from a lab and 2 discussions, I'll get an A. :) Is there anything specific you would like to know? Feel free to send me a PM.

Check out Rio Salado Community College http://www.riosalado.edu/schedule/Pages/schedule.aspx?search=microbiology&semester=4096
The course includes a lab. I started it, but had to withdraw do to relocation.
Good luck.

While we're on the Micro online topic, does anyone know if most programs in NYC accept micro online [applying to BSN programs]? I wasn't sure if admissions had a preference (?)

Microbiology online at Ocean County College is fantastic !!! You will love the professor. I just finished the summer 5 week course and I loved it. If you have a problem with the lab he will call you up and work you through it. If you have a digital camera or even a cell phone with a camera it is a big help with the lab. Tip: Buy the digital adaptor for your microscope for 50 bucks, you can just capture a picture and send it along with your lab report. He loves it when you do that. I never met a more caring professor online. This was my second course with him.
More than half the students in the class were from out of state and said that they made sure that the course would transfer. The transcript does not mention that it is an online course. Most schools teaching online courses don't indicate whether a course is taught completely online, hybrid or face-to-face. Thre truth is, most courses now really are taught at least as hybrids to some degree and require students to follow up online to notes that are posted etc. I guess there are still courses out there from the Jurassic era that don't have some online component.
This is probably the best course and the best professor I have ever had. I highly recommend it to anyone in the US who needs microbiology for nursing school. I think the course website is www.ocean.edu/micro.htm
You will Enjoy this course!!!

I know this question would be hard to answer considering most people take ONE micro course so they cannot compare, but I am wondering if it is definitely worth the expense to do it through OCC.
I read about the course and professor on the OCC site and he definitely would be someone I'd want to learn micro from.
I was considering doing it at Clovis Community College and was wondering if the difference is significant enough to be worth the expense of the much higher per credit hour charge and the lab fee/cost at OCC; on that bend, I guess I haven't checked far enough into Clovis to see what the lab fee/materials cost is.
Thank you for the information about OCC! Its very helpful.
I'm a bit tentative regarding the lab materials that need to be purchased because it seems to add up to quite a lot. However, my boyfriend works at a lab since he's a biochemist and I may be able to obtain some of the materials. Is there anything that you know off the top of your head that is crucial for me to purchase that may be only directly related to the course? A microscope I can surely get... And how often did you have to work on the labs? I'll be taking a full course load and I want to make sure that I know what I'm getting myself into :)
Thanks!
