I was supposed to get assistance through Michigan Works through the No Worker Left Behind program. After a 17 year career, the company I worked for closed my division.
When I first applied, they said I'd get $5k per year towards tuition. Then, right before I started my program, it was changed to $5k in only the last year of the program. So, I go to finally be able to claim this assistance. Now I'm told the state is out of money in this particular fund. Aaaarrrrggghhh!
So, good luck getting funding. I know if you're in the cash assistance program, you qualify for tuition assistance. In addition to Pell grants, it should be enough to cover nursing school.

I heard that the funding is erratic and the rules can be tough. Call them and get all the details before you move forward. I ended up being able to receive unemployment while not having to look for a job, because they had a program if it was an "in demand" career you could fill out paperwork each semester to prove you were a student instead of putting in job applications.
A friend of mine, at the same time, went through the difficult process of tuition reimbursement. She said the lines were long and the paperwork was endless then when it came time to collect they told her "too bad, we ran out of funds"
So just be careful, look in to pell grants.
