Are there any Michigan students who attend or applied to Mercy College of Northwest Ohio? If so what are your thoughts, and how has your experience been so far? I'm really interested in Mercy because they offer a evernings / weekend program which is great for my situation since I am unable to quit working for school... Please share all of your stories.. Thank you,:lol2:

Hello!

I am a Michigan native but I've lived in Toledo for 15 years. I am a Mercy College of NW Ohio grad (May 2009) and I'm very happy I made the decision to go there. I attended partly because they offered a weekend and evening program and partly because they have such a good reputation. I believe the program has a strong core of great science and nursing and I am very pleased with my choice. Good luck to you!

I am glad to hear good things about Mercy. I too chose Mercy because of the evenings and weekend track. I'm really confident in my choice and I know I'll get a better education there, than I would at any of the Michigan community colleges. Thanks for your words!!!

Have you already applied? I got my acceptance letter at the beginning of last month. But I opted for the BSN track, I heard its a really tough school but Im sure if I put my all into it I should be ok.

I have been looking into doing this program for the evening/weekend track. I had some information on them previously but cannot remember the particulars anymore. What are the pre req's to get into their program? Starmickey if you don't mind me asking, what was your gpa? I am trying to see if my grades are good enough to get me in. I currently have about a 3.2 gpa

The last time I heard they still had spots available for the nights/weekends track. Their ADN program mixes in the pre reqs with the nursing courses so you dont have to have them all done before you apply. But to be sure Im telling you correctly heres the website: http://www.mercycollege.edu.

I think you'd get in with your GPA. I had a 3.3 when I applied and was accepted. Im not sure about what grades they pay the most attention to when reviewing your transcript, but others have told me that they were accepted to the ADN program with gpa's similar to yours. There are maybe four other nursing programs in Toledo and they are all community colleges so the cost per credit is much lower than Mercy's so most Toledo residents attend the community colleges instead. They consider Mercy to be expensive, even though its only $295/credit. Personally, the price is like heaven to me because Im currently paying over $450/credit at Michigan State. I think you should definitely apply though, Im sure you'd get in:)

Thanks for that! I think I will apply. I was filling out an app today and I also contacted the admissions rep because I wanted to be sure that I was sending all the right information. So all I have to do is send in my application and have my school send my transcript? If thats all I have to do then I can put the application in the mail tomorrow!

Hey..

I received my acceptance letter around the same time as you.. I'm going the ADN evenings/weekends. What day do you plan on attending orientation, I chose the June 17th. Do you plan on getting CPR certified through the school or American Red Cross... Let's keep in touch, I'll log in later and send you a PM with my info... MsAshley, hurry and apply because they are sending the last batch of acceptance letters out this month, people with lower than a 3.0.

I signed up for orientation on June 14th, I had originally thought about going on the 14th but I guess Im just so excited I couldnt wait lol. Im assuming it would be easier to get certified through the Red Cross and Im going to do that this summer some time. Im kind of thinking about trying to change my program to the ADN, because Im not sure if I can handle another 3 years of school (I dont know why their BSN program is 3 yrs minus the pre reqs). I graduate in may from MSU and I really dont think I want to be in school for another 3 years, that would be 7 yrs worth of undergrad education for me and Im seriously burned out from school. I have to do some serious soul searching this week. When do you plan on meeting with our advisor? I emailed her yesterday to set up a time..

I am sending in my application today along with my transcripts. I had to write a letter to the board for mine as an appeal in regards to a semesters in 2006. I was pregnant with my daughter and really sick and dropped my classes so it lowered my gpa. I want to see if it is possible that it can be omitted. Hopefully so because I think that will increase my chances a little more. I am hoping I hear something soon because I HATE the waiting game! How long did it take them to send out your letters after you applied?

Well I sent in my app around Thanksgiving but they didnt start reviewing the applications until the middle of january and I found out maybe the second week of February. So I really dont think it will take long for them to get back to you, maybe a month at the latest.

Okay well thats not that bad! I hope I do hear back quickly. I didn't realize that they look at all of your academic history which means that they use your high school gpa in evaluating as well. I guess thats good for some people because it gives them a boost!
