Michigan State U accelerated BSN program

Published

Is anyone applying to this program? Anybody know much about the school? They're in their first year, but has anyone done the traditional BSN at MSU? Thanks for your help in advance!

Michigan State has a program now? I was thinking of applying to UMich's accelerated BSN, but hadn't heard about MSU's. I'd love to find out more about it!

Yes they are just starting the program this year. The application deadline is March 11th for Fall semester. The application requires 3 letters of reference, an essay, a resume, and the other normal application information. You need to have taken anatomy, physiology, stats, psychology, growth & development, microbiology, chemistry, and nutrition for pre-reqs and I believe the minimum gpa is 2.5. I have not heard how many people they are accepting but the program only admits people for the fall, the program is 3 semesters fall, spring, summer. They say to be prepared for 6-8 hours per day in class or clinicals and the cost is around $20,000 for tuition/fees.

I got my BS degree from MSU and was thinking about applying but am not sure if I want to add $20,000 to my student loans. Another thing I am concerned about is that MSU's Nursing Program is not accredited by the NLNAC and I am not sure how big of a role that plays. Does anyone have any ideas how big of a deal being accredited is?

I just looked it up, I think they are accredited by CCNE, at least the other baccalaureate programs are, so it should be fine from that standpoint.

I am also wondering the difference between accredited by NLNAC or by CCNE?

I read some graduate school admission pages, some say applicants need to graduate from a nursing school that is NLNAC accredited, does that mean graduate from CCNE accredited not eligible to apply?

I've wondered about that too... from what I can tell CCNE only accredits baccalaureate and above level programs. NLNAC accredits ADN programs, as well as higher levels. I'm not really sure what the differences are beyond that.

I know they're in the process of getting accredited since their program is new. Their other program is NLNAC accredited though. I'll ask the advisor about that. I wouldn't want to go through with program and then have it not be accredited at the end!

Their standard BSN program is not accredited by the NLNAC but they are on the list as being acredited by the CCNE.

I wonder if I should go ahead with applying. I wonder how important the NLNAC is opposed to the CCNE. I figured a big state school would have the proper accreditation. Can you still take the NCLEX if it's just CCNE?

I was surprised when I found out that they weren't accredited by the NLNAC also. I got my BS in Human Biology from Michigan State and have been in classes with nursing students and they say its a good program but I wonder why it is not accredited by the NLNAC. I'm not sure where to find out what the difference between NLNAC and CCNE accreditation is.

It wouldn't hurt to send in your application while you are getting more information on the program, especially since the deadline is next week.

So yes, they're definitely accredited by the CCNE. I sent out my application - like you said, it can't hurt. I guess I'll wait to see the answers to the post about CCNE and NLNAC. Good to hear it's a good program though!
