Hello everyone, have you heard that Oakland University ASD program location has been changed from the Oakland University Riverview institute, in Detroit Mi...to Anton/Frankel Center in Macomb County? the move will be By April 30, 2014.

Boy...I was floored when I heard of this change effecting my driving distance and my gas price increase that would be in additional to my cost. I heard from a lot of future nurses who literally picked OU, in the past and present, from other schools just because of the central location...mine you I have also heard the opposite...also.

What do you all think about the changes? Does this effect you choices of school? Or ? Does it even matter if the accelerated degree school still have the best for your nursing career?

I don't know about you...but wow, things can change in an instant and that where our critical thinking comes into play...I'm sure.

I have a problem, and I hope some of you can help me with it...Should I choose the 2nd degree program that has already accepted me but moved it's location, which will cost me more in gas and time...or...Should I wait to get accepted at another school which I have to worry about expensive parking on campus, which BTW, is over $300 a month, but a closer distance from my home and less cost on gas?!!!

And how does this effect those of you who are already in the program 2014's? Is this a big change...or what? I start OU in Winter 2015.

I applied to the same semester as you and was rejected, I would just tough it out at OU..

I am very sorry MiHopeFull that you received a rejection. Please don't give up! Your name title speaks for itself. Did you apply at any other schools? OU is the only schools that requires 3 mandatory classes at their school, Patho, Informatics, Pharm, which requires one to spend more moneythan that of a community college, I was wondering will you be able to transfer those credits to another ASDN program?

Hey thanks I was pretty upset by the rejection. I have patho under my belt, and looking at a masters direct entry program out of state. Which would be nice, so I can put Michigan in the rear-view for good. Sorry they moved the location on you that stinks, it would have made my drive even longer. With the difficulty of getting into a program, I would think twice about turning it down if I were you.

You are welcome!! Sounds like you already had a plan "B".

Thanks also on your advice...you are right, these programs are very

competitive...so when one gets in...you really have to think hard on

not accepting. However, when a school throw a loop into your plans.

you got to have a plan "B" as you have done. And driving a long distance is a loop.

I have not turned OU down...I am just waiting until June for the acceptance from

WSU Fall 2014 class. I got my BS from WSU and I have 4.0 in all of my science classes...I am crossing my fingers.

Where are you planning on applying out of state...and will they accept your credits. I know

that WSU will not accept OU's Patho or Pharm classes...I just found that out today from

other nursing students. That is probably about the money.

I'm applying at Xavier University down in Ohio.. Good luck to you I'm jealous!

Great selection. Good luck to you! Keep in touch and let us know when you get into the program.

I would still stay in the program. Where do you currently live? Know that you will be traveling no matter what for clinicals (they do not take your residency into consideration, it is random assignment with no switches or changes). The first 7 weeks you will be at class 4 days a week, after that it is mostly 2 days a week. Your last semester you only have to be on campus one day week. When you think about it for a year, that is not that bad. Also try to set up carpools with your classmates.

Hi jaders1289 thank you so much for your advice. I live in Oakland county 49 minutes from the new location, Anton/Frankel Center in Macomb County. You are the first one in the program that have actually 'been there done that', with keeping us inform.

I was wondering how much longer do you have to go before you are finish...or are you finish with the program? If so...Are you in the traditional or the Accelerate 2nd degree program?

Jaders1289 how are your assignments selected...I know you said random...but is it by lot #'s; alphabetically; 1st come; ect..? And...do you have an option to switch with anyone. BTW that car pool sounds great!

Thank you so much again, for keeping us inform...and giving us support.

Quote from angelj11

I was accepted to UDM. They make you feel very comfortable during the interview, it was great. They ask questions why you want to be a nurse, why UDM, etc. I decided not to go to UDM because the tuition is high. It was going to run me around 55k. I was able to find direct entry MSN programs less than that or around that amount.

Hi angelj11 I support your wise decision on making your own evaluation on the cost of the program, whether, you are accepted or not. It sounds like you had options to different nursing programs.

Your interview sounds like it was positive at UDM...which was great...but I am wondering whether a few more schools my take the approach of WSU changes and eliminate the interview process entirely.

I had my interview with OU...but it was a telephone interview only, for Winter 2015, that lasted approximately 20 mins...and I was made to feel very comfortable...and later accepted into the ASDN. However, they have discontinued the in-person interviews, and they have stopped the essay's (2nd degree program).

I believed that the schools are recognizing that most people are going to say, and or write, the right things to get them into the program...or some who just do not interview good, but would be a great nurse. Therefore the judgement is no longer a true indicator for that true nurse.

What do you think is happening with these new changes at the nursing schools...here later? What do you all think out there? ...I would like to get some feed back also from the past, present, and future nurse applicants.

Angelj11 are you in a traditional or a Acelerated program? And...did MSN ask for an essay and or interview process? When do you start?

Yes I am curious to know why they are eliminating the interview process. At UDM the director had told me the reason they do interviews is because they want to get a feel for the person. I can understand that reason but a person can also be a "pretender" and tell you what you want to here. I think they should still do interviews though.

The MSN program is accelerated, 15 months. I had to submit an essay and I had a phone interview since I am out of state.

Congrats on getting into MSN;s program,

I agree angelj11...I too believe that the schools should still do interviews. Why...because at least they would have a visual, of what possibly their schools are putting out there, with the lives of others in their hands...and for the very least, the schools have the responsibility of acting as the middle person, as a school interviewer of candidates to become nurses, by policing their applicants, as best as one can...for the safety of that future patient. Their has to be some types of safe guards put in place.

However, I have another issue with these nursing schools, that seems to show no rhyme or reason, for the length of time that these accelerated BSN second degree nursing programs go about how long they are completed, within all of these different 'completion' amount of time dates. OU's ASDN goes for 12 months; Wayne States CD2 goes for 17 months; and MSN program for 15 months...yet all of the courses pretty much have, in order, the same curriculum's in order to pass the same NCLEX.

Why do you think that there is such a big time frame difference in these similar accelerated BSN programs? Do you believe a longer program gives more wait in numbers, of exactly what schools are passing the state's boards compared to those who are not doing so well, in passing...because of their length of time of their programs?

Today I received an email from a school, (one of my top picks) the subject line read "Congratulations!" I open the email to find they are inviting me to participate in the graduation ceremony for my other degree. Son of a...

Well...Wayne State University, they did it again. I just got notified that the deadline is nearing, June 1, 2014, and because that day falls on a Sunday...they just wanted to seen out a reminder!!!!!!!!

My heart dropped...and I thought...they need to stop doing this. If no one know what the deadline is by now...they don't need to be in a nursing school...right!?.

And then I came to my senses, and felt sorry for the people who are just finishing up their pre-reqs...and then I became respectful of the process...and appreciated their reminder.................but just for moment...............just kidding!!!

But I will add they did state this that, we would be notified in June, and an alternate list will be listed, if there were to be any openings.

Please cross your fingers for me!!!!!
