You can get away with 1 set. In the 1500's you only wear it one day a week. Then on in the 1600 it's one lab day and one clinical...honestly most the time I didn't wash it after the few hours of lab...it didn't get dirty and I wore a shirt underneath. Then after that sure you have two days of clinical so you just throw it in the wash when you get home. No big deal. Two would be nice to add to my laziness, but not necessary!

Thanks so much you have been really helpful. I figured maybe I would get a second uniform during my second year.

I have August start and lab is from 130-730 (or however that is) on T. Now I have to figure out what to do with my kids for 4-5 hours for those 8 weeks. The follow 8 weeks, I have clinicals at MCG and I live across the street so that will be kind of convenient. That one starts at 7 AM

    Hello, to all,

From this 1/2 an MCC nurse (yeah me!), here's a couple of things that I have wished for along the way.

    1) I wished that I had started in October several times, including now, because between 1600s and 1700s was Christmas/Winter break, and during that time you have previously learned detailed assessing skills, but in 1700s, you are going to have to really be using them the second you walk into clinicals. Right now I wish I started in Oct because I just finished up Psych where you are assessing pts, but not really any kind of medical issues, and I'm headed right back into Med/Surg 2. I haven't medically assessed anyone for over 8 weeks...what am I gonna remember over the summer even?

    2) I wished I would have waited a tiny bit to go and purchase all of the equipment that they said that I needed. The "Nurse Packs" that you might or might not have heard of (a required item that you must purchase in addition to your books, available in the bookstore only) had a penlight and headphones in it, but who's to say that it won't change for you guys?

    3) I wished I would have started to read ahead of time when I had the chance before classes started. I wouldn't have "super" studied it, but I would have read it and tried to understood it as best as I could. You will get a letter from Teri the most wonderfully organized and all-knowing woman on the face of the planet (she's the secretary in the nursing office) that will tell you when to come and pick up your syllabus. (Or maybe you won't and you might have to call her, probably the last week in July or so).

I'm not so sure that things will be the same for you guys as it was for me, as I hear that they might have been looking to change the order of how the classes are given, but who knows. One thing that I wouldn't change is the friendships that I have developed. Treasure those.

Congrats to all of you and welcome!

Thank you again for this post; I thought I would be starting in Jan., and I'm actually starting in Oct. I was fine with the Jan. date... extra time, but I guess this start date has some great benefits This is a very encouraging post, and I will follow your advise

Lecture day is on Monday and everyone that starts in October will be together but for labs/clinicals they will be different depending on your section number. Look on your letter that lists your classes, under nurs 1530 check your section number and then look in the fall registration book for what day you have. If you don't have a reg. book let me know your section and I will look it up for you!

Section co808 is on Fri from 9am-2:55pm room E201. I was pretty sure with my ranking that I would start in Oct. but I was willing to take Aug. if there was a spot! I am happy with Oct. because it is actually going to work out better for me with our home schedule. Glad I could help out!

Taflatt: aww! thought we might get lab together!!! I had to get back to class today, otherwise I would have asked if you found out what your lab was! LOL.

Szyman! Thank you for all your continuous input! It really does help a LOT!!!

I have another question for current MCC nursing students: uniforms? Do I really need two uniforms or can I get away with one in the beginning? I am really trying to be careful about money since I am not sure if I will be able to keep my full time job while I am in school. Washing the uniform often isn't a problem, but I am just wondering if I should just shell out the cash for 2.
    Thanks for the help!
You really only need one. I have two because I bought them cheap from someone that graduated ahead of me. I just wash them and hang them to dry (they dry fast), no ironing to worry about (at least not for my well-worn sets!).

Do you think the nursing uniforms run big, small, or normal? I heard they run big? Lucky you on getting used ones
