Latoya's Health Education and Training Center

U.S.A. Michigan

I heard about this school from a couple of nurses at a facility I used to work at as a CNA. They told me it was only 1 LPN year program and the only thing you had to do to get in was have a HS diploma, pass a PSB test and complete and interview with Rosa (very very nice lady). I jumped right on that opportunity and was accepted in May of 2009. I am currently attending Latoya's and I love it as of today I have 8 months until graduation. I am so thankful for this school because if not for it I would still be waiting to get into Mott's program.

Okay so the cost was 13,000 for my class but next year it will go up to 14,00 dollars. Which is still alot less then AMC's program and from what I hear Latoya's program is a tad bit better. But you know I am bias. :redbeathe

But if you are currently on a waiting list or you want to change your careers I highly recommend that you try Latoya's. I believe testing to get in started on Jan. 20th and it will continue until the end of April.

If you have any questions or you want contact information reply here .

Thanks SPN, that sounds more managable than the program here. I would have micro, A&P, nutrition and pharm done before our program even starts. Im starting to wonder if the program at my school is way more work than it needs to be for the same job. I heard they changed the pass grade to above and 80 this year.

Too bad Saginaw is so far away.

Hey, I live in saginaw and I wanted to start latoyas nursing school. I Hoping this will be a good program for me. So I can be able to support my newborn son. I wanted to starte out as a cna. But I really wanted to be a lpn. But people said I should start out as a cna, so I can see how I like the experince. But I wanted to know do you have to do a pbs test to become a cna, and is the test hard? also do you feel I should starte out as a cna, aswell? I'm sorry If I'm asking to much questions but I would like to know from your point of view!

Thank you! Oh yea and I work night shift at work 6 to 2:30am. Do they have morning classes? Or a class close to time before I go to work.

I was checking into Latoya's also. Got the practice test and everything. BUT I dont think financially I can swing it, NWLB said I could only get 5k towards it, and how the heck am I gonna come up with the rest. How did you get yours paid? Any other schools similar around? Thanks!

Hi sweets was the test easy

I didnt take the test, just had the practice test. It seemed very easy, pretty common sense stuff. I just wish that I could come up with the financial aid to cover the 14k in time to take the actual test the end of this month, so I could start this October. I dont wanna wait a year!!

Yea I know what u mean...just try talking to your caseworker,if you have one.

SPN Candance can you email me? I have taken the test and received my acceptance letter but I am just wondering what I have to look forward to. My email is [email protected]

I am registered to begin classes at Latoyas in October 2010. The PSB entrance exam is general basic knowledge re: reading comprehension, spelling, physical science, math, problem solving, nursing situations etc. I scored in the 99th precentile for it after not studying much at all, but i do work in healthcare already so i deal with a lot of the information regularly. After passing the test, i had an interview, and then received my acceptance letter (only took about 3 weeks from signing up for the test, to taking it, getting results and receving my acceptance). People at the school have all been extremely friendly and helpful with every question I've had, and seem eager to give information and support. I am working with NWLB to try and help with funding, but its all a matter of getting on a wait list and then seeing if they get funds for you, which is pretty up in the air still. If you can afford this school, i would highly suggest lookign into it!!

I got into the school as well, but have decided to try again next year because the 4,000 was too much for me to come up with :( then there is still the possibilty if NWLB will give up the 10k for the rest. I hope the tuition doesnt go up more next year, but I know how much I will need and I will put aside my tax money and try again next year. I was also accepted into the Oct 2010. I really wish I could have attended :(

Hi, I was just wondering what the NWLB is? I've been accepted to the LPN program this October @ Latoya's but now I don't think the program I was participating in will be able to get the funds for the 10K.

I was just wondering if you've already received any word about the funding. I'm also waiting for the $ and I'm afraid it's not gonna be available. I'm going through Michigan Works WIA program.

If you were not already on the waiting list for money before July 1, I dont think your chances are very good. I know my local MIWORKS was out of funding a long time ago so now they are only obligated to help those who are already in programs. There was no increase in funding this year so almost all of the MIW locations are unable to accept anymore new applicants for the NWLB money.

I was very close, went there 2 years ago and went thru the whole process only to be told they wont pay for pre-re'qs. Im in my last pre-req now and submitted my application to the nursing program but its too late to get any money now.
