Hello, I am interested in nursing however I am concerned that I will not be admitted into any programs due to the background check. I have a few misdemeanors and no felony's . I know Oakland Community College will not take any students with any prior criminal record no matter what is is. I am wondering if I have a chance to get into Wayne County Community College or any other Community colleges in the area that accept students with checkered pasts.

I know I can get the charges expunged however there is a 5 year waiting period for that and by that time I could already be graduated and working. Does anyone have experience navigating this system?

I am hoping to gain some guidance from current/past Michigan students that have knowledge about the ABSN degree options.

(to spare you some reading, I am focusing more on MSU and Wayne but open to anywhere)

Heres the situation- I have a year left after this last semester of my UG, which is a humanities degree, no science courses. I am a bit ahead on my degree but still need some credits to graduate and can take any class I want, so I am going to take two nursing pre-recs my final year. This summer I start a CNA course and plan on working as CNA for the next 1.5-2 years (until I can get into a nursing program). I also, assuming I am accepted into the program, plan on starting hospital volunteer work this summer as well.

So far my college experience has had nothing to do with nursing. Despite knowing it was my calling since high school, I was discouraged by the family and took a different path. So I am starting from scratch in regards to building a solid application/work experience.

I had a very rough start to college, with no valid excuse. I simply wasnt focused. My UG GPA is not good and even though I have gotten my act together and plan on keeping it that way until graduation, in theory my GPA will only come out to be around a 3.2-3ish , though best case scenario it could end up closer to a 3.45 if I mostly 4.0 the rest of college (not likely, Arabic is my focus and it is HARD)

Then I'll have more pre-recs to take, which of course I'd love to say will be a 4.0 but realistically knowing myself and my abilities, I'll throw an estimate of about 3.7 (science is actually my thing, so had I picked a stem field as my major my UG gpa would probably not have suffered so harshly)

So by the time I want to begin applying to ASBN programs I will have around

3.25 cumulative GPA

3.7 Pre rec GPA (God willing!)

1.5 + years CNA experience

1.5+ years hospital volunteer experience

This will all be taken at Western Michigan, except for some pre-recs which will be taken at a CC.

I have done individual research on all the state schools programs but their "minimum" for everything doesn't seem to compare to the truth, from what I see on these and other boards.

So I am hoping someone can tell me what schools are out of reach with my (possible) final GPAS. As I am trying to make solid plan right now, and I've noticed most of the schools different pre-rec requirments, I dont wanna wastes my time on pre-recs I wont need (one school I saw required cultural anthro/sociology when none of the others did for example)

Ideally I would want to live with one of my parents or family members, so I'd like to stay close to Lansing. Michigan State is my first choice. I have read they like very high GPA but I have read two post on this site about people with pretty average GPA's getting in, so I'm hoping for some insight on this program? This is number one for me because I'd save SO much money AND have a guaranteed job working for the family store where I could pick and choose my hours without repercussion...cant find that really anywhere else.

Wayne is also ideal, because in the long run I want to be a Midwife and they have a solid Midwife program + and Detroit is the only city in MI I would consider settling in permanently. Its also not so far away that I couldnt commute from Lansing.

BUT seeing as I am not a competitive student with my GPA's, I will go ANYWHERE without complaint! Those are just my preferences.

I really dont want to do the two year program at a CC, then try for ASBN. I want to at least try for ASBN from the start. I am ready to be done with school!

I want to note, I have read every all nurses post on these schools I could get my hands on but most are very old! So I know a lot of this info has been covered, but stats from 2008 aren't very helpful /:

If you got this far, thanks for reading, I appreciate any feedback!

Fingerprinting from out of state

Hello, I'm an ICU nurse of 17 years and I'm planning to move to Michigan with my husband and kids this Summer. I applied for Michigan licensure (I do not live in a compact state). Michigan nursing board only allows fingerprints to be done electronically through a company called Identago which advertises out of state locations on their website. However, there are none in my state. It appears that is false information, it's only available in Michigan which doesn't help when I'm 2500 miles away. I need to start working sooner rather than later but it appears my only option is mailing a hard card which could take weeks. Any tips on quicker fingerprint results in Michigan? For example, anyone submitted electronic fingerprints through another company and been successful?

tl;Dr Michigan is forcing me to submit hard card fingerprints; any tips from anyone who's been through this process from out of state? Thanks in advance ??

They emailed back that is DID meet requirements. paid my $, Did the course, printed out the certificate which clearly says it DOES NOT meet Michigan requirement. Elite has an interactive course < which from my reading of the MI requirements is necessary> but every time I click on the course to learn more, it crashes.HELP!

Okay so I had kept this only between me and my family, and everything was going good until I made the mistake of telling a colleague that I have a mental illness and now all of the gossip and bullying is occurring. Any suggestions? I am scared everyday that I could get reported and have my career ruined. Can they do this to me or I am just being paranoid? I love nursing and want to continue being a nurse but I am afraid whether I will be allowed to practice with my mental Illness. I am a human being like everyone else but sadly have a disorder, an illness that I cannot cure.

So I got a DUI in March, was out with friends and I should not have drove after drinking but a male friend was making me very uncomfortable with his advances so I got in my car thinking I could drive away from him then call someone. But I hit a curb and a pole. Anyway I’m almost out of the court probation, I have one more month. I self reported to the BON with the help of an attorney and I just heard from HPRP asking me to call for an intake and do an evaluation and all this stuff. I’ve read horror stories about the program and I 100% want to avoid it. I am not a big drinker, I have not drank in months and I’m usually only a few times a year drinker normally. I’m scared out of my mind. My attorney said he will contact someone at hprp for me on Monday. Does anyone know what I can expect with this process? Is there any way out of a monitoring agreement?

I’m a retired RN. I am hearing from some friends that are still working in the field, that many nurses are adding their personal opinions of patients in the “note” sections on the Epic system (and other medical software systems). As a result, during shift changes and when patients may come back in for a subsequent visit, they are mistreated based on what was written by the previous nurse. Has anyone noticed that? I have a close friend who did wasn’t very kind to some of her patients and instead would document the patient as “aggressive”, “non-compliant” or “frustrated” to make the oncoming nurses have a distorted perception of the patient before even administering treatment to them. If I were still working, I’d definitely be a whistle blower in that situation. I’m a firm believer that right is right and wrong is wrong!

	Hello!

I am a nurse with 8 years experience in LTC/Rehab as an LPN and a new RN since May.

I'm looking to expand my resume to look more favorable to data review, utilization review, chart review, HEDIS positions. My current hospital offers NONE of these options for me because we outsource all of that.

The more I look at these positions the more I know they suit my personality, diagnosed OCD and very type A about documentation.

How can I get this experience? I'm reaching out to HR at another local hospital as soon as I get her contact information from my SIL. But ideally I'd like to find a remote option for training.

I debated doing medical coding and billing at my local community college but don't know if that would actually be beneficial to me?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
