Miami Dade College (MDC) Fall 2012 Full-time/Part-time Nursing program

Published

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to start a thread for people interested in the MDC nursing program for fall 2012. I think if you shared your scores (TEAS V & GPA) and what track your applying to (full-time or part-time), it will give everyone an idea of where they stand.

I will start:

I have a 3.7 GPA and an 81% on the TEAS and looking to apply for the part-time program. I have the option of taking the TEAS 2 more times which I will be doing :)

looking forward to meeting you tomorrow as well!

Congrats a.ortiz067!!!See you at orientation!!

Orientation is in a few hours, after today it's money spending time lol books, uniforms the works. I can't wait to see what takes 6 hours today and another 6 tomorrow, there are many missed hours of work involved and just when cash is flowing out like blood from an aorta. like 120 bucks for a booster varicella shot (cheapest in town). But who's complaining it's a joyous long awaited pat on the back day for many and a experience many are longing to bare the burden for what seems like eternity.

Those of you in the bridge program PM me if you want to do a study group, I also have every first semester book (and more) on PDF files so you can put them on you laptop or iPad or iPhone, lets get a good group together, preferably if you live down south...

how was orientation? i am intersted to know what i have to look forward to next week and to what to

I might need to bring with me.

I was in a short daze then I heard blah, blah, blah ... Friday. Then I said Friday, the 6th what? a couple of days after a major holiday...thats insane, but guess what? I'm more insane I did most of my paperwork by the end of the day. YAHOOOOO!!!!! I'm in!!!!:nurse: :loveya:

P.S:Please share a copy of the booklist

Congratulations studybuddy12!!!! The LORD is good :yeah: SO happy for you! Continue trusting Him :)

I would also like to know how orientation went please!! :-)

Bridge Orientation was fine.

Go to the auditorium, check in (started before 9:00 am), and turn in your paperwork (for those who hadn’t before).

Once inside, there were presentations from the administrators:

  • Student life
  • Learning Resources
  • Campus President
  • Administrative Services
  • Advisement
  • Security Chief
  • Bookstore manager, who brought the clerk dressed up with the new uniform as a model, lol, and some books we’ll be using for us to see.
  • Financial Aid
  • Dean of Students and student government representative

We had a 15-20 min break and then the Nursing Dep. chairperson went over the AS in Nursing Student Handbook with all the rules and regulations we are supposed to follow. They also gave us the Manual of Clinical Skills and Clinical Performance that contains all the forms for our evaluation on the clinical sites during all the rotations.

At that time we were given the list of classes (reference #) to register. Some people, who had their electronic devices there, registered right away, others waited till lunch time, 1-2pm.

There was a long presentation from William (from the nursing dep) about ATI. He is the one that is in charge of the ATI session the following day. At the end of this, they had the checklist of the paperwork for all of us, telling us what was still missing. They give you a yellow paper with all the info. I had it complete, but I saw some people talking to them about the missing stuff, so there is an extension, but I’m not sure for how long.

Some of us went to buy the uniforms, one set consisting of pants (1, green is the only option), 1 white shirt (for clinicals), 1 green shirt (for lectures), and 1 lab coat, totals around $130.00. Shoes are very expensive (60), but the chairperson said all-white sneakers are accepted.

At 2 pm, after lunch, a lady from ATI gave another presentation going over all the features ATI has to offer. Most of it we already knew because we had to do it all as LPNs, but for some of you it may be new. It was interesting nonetheless.

Almost every speaker emphasized the need of commitment, the lack of time we’ll have, the maximum effort we need to put forward, etc, etc, etc.

There were other forms they handed out for us to sign and some handouts with useful information from all the departments. The list of books was also handed out.

In general, it was a good experience. It could have been shorter, but it was fine.

I’m not sure if I’m missing something important. Those who were there, please help :)

For the generic program, it may be somewhat different, but not that much, I believe.

Good luck everybody and enjoy the time you have left!

Thanks alp06!!! Very helpful!!! For those going to FT Generic Homestead orientation on Friday, do u want to meet somewhere or post what we''ll be wearing so we can meet each other? Just a thought :-)

Yes for homestead orientation I'll post what I'll be wearing thursday night

Has anybody noticed that the FT Generic Homestead classes don't have the sequences listed??
