Miami Dade accelreated vs generic

Published

Ok, so i got accepted to both for fall 2012 and i cant make my decision on which option im going to take.

Pros: Generic homestead

1. its 5 minutes from my house

2. clinicals i believe will be at baptist homestead which is where i want to work when i graduate so i get to network

3. able to apply for baptist scholars program

Cons: 16 months long - wont finish until Nov 2013 i believe

not sure how great the teachers are in homestead campus

Pros: Accelerated Medical Campus

1. clinicals at jackson i think which is a great hospital

2. 12 months long - finish July-aug 2012

3. heard the teachers for accelerated are some of the best

Cons: its a 45 min. drive from my house in homestead

no baptist scholars program for accelerated according to advisors

Im leaning towards generic but i dont know which program is better for me. anyone who has gonr through this please give me some advice or additional opinions to consider im going monday to reserve my seat.

Thanks

Which did you end up picking?

I personally would go with option 1, generic homestead. The reasons why I would choose it over the other:You can't beat being 5 mins from home. You will save on gas. You will be able to go home if need be, during the middle of the day. A 45 drive both ways does not allow you the luxury of going home if you have a break during the day. If the clinicals are held at the hospital that you want to work at after you graduate, this is a great way to get your foot in the door and network! When hospitals hire new grads, many of them are the same ones who they are familiar with/did clinicals there or are internal already. Having an avaliable scholarship program is also great! School can add up quickly and having a scholarship is definitely a monetary stress reliever! Although this option is longer, it is only 1 more year. I know that may sound like a lot, but in the scheme of things it really isn't. I know you said that you have heard the teachers at the accelerated are some of the best, but IMO I would think you will have some great teachers in either option.

i accepted the generic homestead, just getting all my info in omg i went to medical campus to pay and drop off my health records and it was sooo packed it was insane, im scared they are going to lose my paper work or something, i cant apply for baptist scholars because i learned they only offer it to those beginning in spring : ( . I hope i still get to do my clinicals there though. and its not a year more...its only 4 more months than accelerated and i like the fact that my house is down the street.

Well, we'll be classmates :) I'm going to try to go up today to pay my deposit. I hate having to drive all the way up there!! So, Baptist Scholars isn't available for people starting Fall semester? That doesn't seem right. I know in past years, based on what I've read in this forum, it's been available for others. Maybe we can apply after the first term :/
