MHCC/PCC Fall 2018/Winter 2019

Published

Hello future nursing student friends! I've applied to MHCC, PCC, OHSU, CCC and Columbia Gorge in the Dalles. I wanted to start a thread to help ease some anxiety! What are everyone's stats? Where did you apply? What is your GPA? Do you hav work experience>? Did you do any preinterview point calculations? Where would you like to go?

I already answered my first question. My GPA is 3.84 and I have over 5 years experience as a medical assistant. According to my calculations at MHCC I will have 62 points, PCC 59, CCC 50, OHSU unknown, Columbia Gorge 53 (I think). I'd love to go to MHCC because it is close to my house but really any school will do. I'm hopful to get in this year, but it is my first year applying so fingers crossed. I'd love to hear from everyone else who is applying.

Hi there!

Not sure if it's alright if I post, since I probably applied to slightly different programs but it's so nice to hear about other people applying to the same schools that I figured I'd give it a shot anyways. I just applied to two different programs through OHSU, as I already have a bachelor's degree and am hoping to avoid having to repeat taking a lot of classes. I didn't apply anywhere else so far because this is the optimal program for me price wise, but will likely look at PCC, Concordia, Linfield, and maybe University of Portland if this doesn't work out. I have a cumulative GPA of 3.82 with 4.0 in my pre-reqs so far (A in A&P I and three other classes completed so far). I'm not a CNA or MA, but have worked for a low-income county health clinic for the last year and a half and feel as good as I'm probably going to about my chances. Which OHSU program did you apply to?

Cheers!

Hi,

I just joined allnurses because I finally got all my prerequisites done and dropped my application off at MHCC in December! Fingers crossed! I have a Bachelor's from 1996 in an unrelated subject. And started back at school once my kids were established in their schools. I've taken all the nursing prereq's at MHCC.

What are everyone's stats? Where did you apply? Only MHCC so far... But in order of preference, MHCC, OHSU (accelerated, I know, I have to wait a year now), OHSU traditional BSN, and Concordia ABSN.

What is your GPA? I have a 4.0 at MHCC, but I did count a B in writing from U of Portland on my application.

Do you have work experience>? No experience as a provider, just a patient and parent. I used to work for a medical supply company and I'm familiar with equipment like infusion pumps and ventilators (testing and maintaining them).

Did you do any preinterview point calculations? I'm guessing around 53 points. I'm not 100% sure how they calculate the 40 points for your GPA, I know it is your grade and how many the hours the class is in some sort of linear equation. So I guesstimated 35 (I had 1 B and then opted out of the 2nd writing class).

Where would you like to go? #1 choice MHCC because I live nearby and it is my most affordable option :-)

Good luck to everyone!

Hi!

I applied to the 3 year BSN program at OHSU. Your chances sound pretty great based on your GPA :)

To calculate points for GPA (obtained from PCC application)

GPA is calculated based on the grades earned among the 45 credits of prerequisites

(GPA x 24) – 56 = Points

Hi there! I am applying to CCC, PCC, Mt. Hood, Chemeketa, Lane and OHSU Portland! I work as a CNA now and have an associates degree from Lane.

Have you tried doing any point calculations? Where would you prefer to go any why??

I am not sure if my comment posted so I'll post again. I think I have 50.53 at CCC if I calculated correctly. I am working on my other calculations right now. Any school around Portland would be nice but I have the best shot at Lane CC with 61/64 points since that is where I have taken all of my prerequisites. I really just want to get in anywhere haha!

This is my second time applying so I am really nervous!

This is my first time applying and I am also nervous. Did you get interviews the last time you applied? Did you apply to the same schools?

Rosey

I only got an interview at Lane CC. I am applying to the same schools again this year. This will be my first year applying to PCC and Chemeketa though. At Chemeketa they have you take the Kaplan pre-nursing exam which I have never taken!
