Am wondering if pregnant OR nurses are working with bone cement in your OR?
Opinions anyone, thank you

We had an orthopedic surgeon who used it during all three of her pregnancies.
The surgeons I work with give me the look every time they use it. If I was pregnant, they would kick me out. I'm breastfeeding, and it makes them nervous for me to be in the room, but there is no evidence to suggest it is dangerous.

We have some sort of respirator that the pregnant nurses/STs use. Some of the surgeons still won't allow them in the room. They can't really be rotated to other specialties during pregnancy because our orthopedic ORs are separate from the others.

It really depends on your comfort zone. There is an ST that I work with who did not see a reason to excuse herself from cases involving cement because she could not find any evidence to support harmful effects to the fetus. The docs helped her in her efforts to find research. There is another one who absolutely refuses to work in a room where cement is being used. All of our total joint cases are done in a room with laminar air and the staff wear space suits.

I agree. Don't chance it.

I, too agree, that you need to excuse yourself from any cement cases. You dont want to take risks at this time. Your manager will understand.
Thanks to all of you who responded to my question. My sentiments are that I would rather not chance it, I value all of your input.
