I am looking to relocate outside of Florida. Just doing some research on places I might like to go. Several people have suggested TN. I am a RN with 14 yrs exp, the last 10 in dialysis. I was looking at the above hosp website & real estate in the area...sounds pretty good. Is there anyone that can give me some info on the Memphis area...quality of living etc. Would also like an idea of the salary I could expect for acute dialysis with lots of experience. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

When I finish nursing school, my husband & I will be leaving Memphis. If you have your heart set on working at Methodist, I strongly encourage you to look at surrounding cities--Collierville,TN; Olive Branch,MS; Southaven, MS. Read the local news & you will be scared into living somewhere else! WREG channel 3, WMC channel 5, The Commercial Appeal, look at the top stories on their websites. I've lived in Memphis since 1990, & I hate to sound so pessimistic, but I'm constantly looking over my shoulder, even in my own driveway, to see if someone's there to rob me. There are a few "safe" neighborhoods in East Memphis, & there are some new condos being built downtown, but you'll still have to leave your home & go to the store, work, the bank, etc. If you have school-aged children, you will probably want to send them to private school as well (not Memphis City Schools). I have a friend working at Methodist (not an RN), and she loves it. Just do a LOT of research before you make the decision to move/work in Memphis!

I have lived in Memphis all of my life (I'm 27 years old), and have never been one of those people that just NEEDED to leave. Yes, Memphis has alot of crime, but that's with any metro community. Don't let people scare you with their "looking over my shoulder" remarks. I work for Methodist, but not the University hospital. The only time I would be overly concerned about my safety is anytime I was leaving after sunset. But let me say, the hospital I work at is in what is considered an upscale suburb of Memphis, and I won't even walk to my car alone after dark there. So, once again, don't be frightened away from people who hate Memphis.

Crime is all over Memphis including, all the surrounding cities such as Olive Branch and Southaven, MS. The news tends to focus more on Memphis because , it's the main city. Memphis can't be too bad , because everyone from the surrounding cities goes and works there everyday. Like any other major city , Memphis has it's good and bad parts. In this day and time , you all ways have to be alert no matter where your at.:twocents:
