Mesa CC/Boswell Nursing Option

Published

I was wondering if anyone has information on whether the Boswell program will still be a valid choice since they are now Banner? I know everything is still fresh with Banner taking over, but I am unsure how that program will work now. Any information will be helpful.

Hello there...

I currently attend the Mesa/ Boswell Nursing Program. From what I heard, the name will be changed to Banner Boswell/ Mesa NP but won't be one of those nurse fellows cohorts. I have heard that it will still be a valid choice but it can change...but thats what i heard so far...let me know if you need more info and ill gather em as i hear em around school...:D good luck!

What do you think so far of the mesa cc boswell program? What is your weekly schedule like, and Pros and Cons to the nursing program?

Hello AZSamantha...

Thanks:D As far as clinical goes, we are actually doing clinicals at a rehab center near our school. This is a different clinical from the actual hospital one. I like the fact that we are actually using our skills that we learn as we go so it is still quite fresh on our minds. And then after we are done with the rehab center, then I do my actual clinical rotation at the Banner Boswell Medical Center on the 11th week i believe (i could be wrong, it can be later too..... ) I dont know if this is the only school that is doing it this way but I am maintaning all my skills as we go....Let me know on your progress too:D

Hi Sweetsmuckers--

Hope all is well. I just got accepted into Mesa Boswell for Spring 09:yeah:. And I would love to know how you're feeling about the program so far. How are the instructors? Is the curriculum overwhelming? About how much time do you spend outside of class studying? Also I was looking at the booklist for fall 08 and was wondering if you could give me an estimate how much you spent for books and PDA (or if a PDA is even needed)???I would love to know as much as I can, as I'm really excited and nervous at the same time!

Hi, I was accepted by the same programm spring 09 as you. If you are interesting, you can contact me.We can talk each other.

How did you get into the Boswell Program? Did you just put it as one of your choices or did you have to apply to them directly? When I go to there website it says to send your application to them. I have them as like my third choice but I did not send them my app. Thanks

Congrats!

I will see you guys next semester. You guys will like it. Its a new curriculum that they started this semester but hopefully it will get better next semester. Right now, week 11, we start our hospital rotation until november 20. We're only at the hospital on wednesdays and thursdays so that was a relief. Until the next block then i think you have some days you are not at school where u have to go to clinicals. But right now, it is all good. Today we just had our 3rd exam on fluids and electrolytes and i HIGHLY advice that u read on those because it is one of the hardest topic you will ever encounter in nursing school. So many lab values you have to interpret...

Istructors...my instructor was great. We actually have 2 since they divided us into two groups of 30. Both are really good. have their own style of teaching. But I believe my instructor wont be teaching blk 1 next semester. We'll see...

Curriculum....Well like what I said, its a new one so it is a bit scattered all over the place but we're working on it. It looks unorganized right now but we're starting to pick up the pieces.

As far as studying...get a study group together. But Im the type I study better off by myself ( iahve two kids, one in kindergarten). Its your choice.

Books...well, I spent close to $1000 because i bought some of the optional books which were helpful to me. And I highly recommend a PDA because we use this program called unbound nursing and it has davis drug guide, lab and diagnostics, tabers, and medline...its around $160 but it is so worth it during clinicals because you dont have to carry so much books around.

And i also recommend buying 3 sets of uniform...thats just me but lately I have to wear uniforms on the days im at school and during clicicals (always). But its up to you....

So total cost would be a little over $2000 (or even more) out of pocket that I spent but its so worth it!

But anyway...enough about me....congrats to all those who got in. Boswell has the highest NCLEX passing rate in the county. So im proud of that.

Ive been accepted to the Mesa CC Boswell Fall 09 Nursing Program. Does anyone know what the schedule will be for block one this fall?

Hey guys!

Whew! MAde it to Blcok 3 starting August 2009. I'm excited that we start Med-Surg then OB/Peds....So how is everyone feeling so far about MEsa-Boswell? I'd like to know because I can tell you I have a lot of things to say...More good than bad though...:-)

Those starting Block 1, I might see you guys on orientation day because I might volunteer to hand out stuff and do tour of the school. :D

Can't wait to start Block 3! WOOOOOO!:yeah:
