Nurses Men

Hey guys,

I am a 25 year old guy - I guess you figured that out - and I am going to be starting my pre-req's for an accelerated BSN program in a couple weeks. I struggled with the thought of being a male nurse and I've come to the decision that I can handle it and that I would be stupid not to do it.

Can any of you guys offer and words of wisodm or advice?

Well you are not too old. Law enforcement and health care are very different fields. I never had a problem with the role as "male nurse" I make very good $$ and get to do exciting things. I never regretted it. I just wish more males would get into the field, though it has improved. Remember this is a female dominated profession. If you are able to communicate well with women then go for it. If however you are not able to, which I have met many, then forgetaboutit. Otherwise good luck.

Being one of the small number of males in nursing is something that appeals to me. I would take it upon myself to educate other guys about the profession as well as do my best to advance the status of males in the profession.

I can deal with females, I do it every day. There are no women in law enforcement who are not strong willed.

Registered for my pre-reqs and I sent my application in for an accelerated BSN program today. Hopefully I'll get into the program!

It's going to be tough, but I can do it. My goal is to become a CRNA and I plan on studying very hard so I can reachmy goal. I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions along the way.

20 male here...i graduate next may...

little advice: don't say you will do something, don't tell anyone what you will do in school...

JUST DO IT and dont be afraid to ask for advice and suggestions on the way...

dont say you will study hard....prove it man, b/c the people don't accept you for what you say you will do, it is how hard you do it....

Excellent point! I'm not doing this prove something to other people, I'm doing it to prove something to myself.

Hey guys,

I am a 30 year old guy - I guess you figured that out - and I am going to be starting my pre-req's for an accelerated BSN program in a couple weeks. I struggled with the thought of being a male nurse and I've come to the decision that I can handle it and that I would be stupid not to do it.

I have a bachelors degree in criminal justice and I am currently working as a parole officer. Yes, I carry a gun and get to kick in doors and throw people in jail and all that fun stuff, but I just do net get any satisfaction from my job. I really don't want to be a cop and there is no room for advancement where I currently work and the bottom line is that I'm just not happy.

So, after doing a lot of research and soul searching, I decided to get my BSN. My ultimate goal is to become a CRNA and I know it's going to be hard, but I'm willing to do what it takes.

Can any of you guys offer and words of wisodm or advice?

There are 4 men in my nursing class, and they get all the attention. Hope you are willing to study, stress out, study, stress out. Accelerated BSN is pretty intense and there is not much time for living while you are in it. Best of luck!!! We need more big strong men to help with the lifting!!!!!

Hello everyone! I am brand new to this forum and this is my first post. I am a former teacher that finally grew up and decided what I want to do. I am in the accelerated program in the BSN program. It is a tough haul but it will be well worth it in the end. I too intend to become a CRNA but one thing at a time. In my state I must have one year experience to be eligible to apply to the program and it is a 27 month program.

And by the way, why do I keep seeing "male nurse?" Why can't we just be nurses?

Hi, Craig. Welcome.

This matter has been extensively discussed, and no one seems to know why.

I may start telling people I prefer to be called a fat nurse.
