My program sucks!!!!

Ok I am in my clinicals at LaGuardia here in NYC and I am kind of disappointed. There are very few men and most of the women either are talking in another language and the few that speak english just stick with each-other. I am not antisocial or sexist or racist or anything, I just don't know if this environment is healthy for me. I love my classes and becoming a professional but the class environment is just awful. Sometimes I think I got stuck in the wrong school and should have applied elsewhere but now it is to late. I guess I will have to deal with it for another year and a half but when you do thing that you don't like it just doesn't feel right!

Sorry. That's no good. I was skeptical, but I like mine. It's pretty laid back, and the 20 or so students are all from around here. The teachers seem realistic.

i had a great class but the program sucked!!! if you like the school and your getting what your suppose to be getting, then hang in there. it isn't much different in the urban workplace as your situation i.e. i work with lots of hispanics and albanians. just learn to love them; be a good guy, don't say anything bad about anyone in your program and they will adore you!

school is like work, it isn't meant to be fun or a social activity, if it does happen to be fun or a social activity then that's great, but not what's needed.

Keep your goal in mind whenever things look grim. You are there to learn, as long as you are doing that, suck it up and imagine the day when you are a world famous RN dating supermodels and riding on Lear jets. And when that happens I want to be your best friend, so have your people call me...

I'm not a guy, but I graduated from PN school this year. i was in a class of 48 people only 2 guys. No different in that class..I was a bit older (38) than most of the people, but it was horrible, the drama, the fights, the clicks..it was worse than being in High school....I tried to be as social as possible, but with all the problems in the class, made me hate nursing school!!! But keeping focused and determined helped me get thru it...yeah and from what i hear it isnt that much different from being at work!!! lol:uhoh3: just hang in there, dont drop out!!!

Brother, you are going to work with all kinds of people when you graduate - might as well learn to deal with them now. I told myself all through nursing school that I wasn't there to win a popularity contest or make any lifelong friends, I was there to get my degree and my sit pass. It wasn't social hour for me, although it seemed to be for a lot of my classmates.

Guess what? It doesn't change much in the workplace - except that the ones among your colleagues who are serious generally stick around; those who are not, don't stay long.

Ultimately I have learned that if I maintain a smile on my face and a cheerful attitude (because I can do anything for 12 hours, and I know what I am going home to!) - then I can get through my day a lot easier. And it has the added benefit of getting on the bitter people's nerves!

You can do this. You can get through, overcome, and excel - if you choose to. If you choose not to, hey, at least you made the choice, right? :coollook:

I just graduated and had similar trouble being an older student. But in the end it was worth it just keeping my nose to the grindstone and finishing in top of class. You may never have to see those people again-that thought sustained me at times!

They all suck. Some more than other but they all suck. In my program they had the females up doing skits all the time. I was the only male and I refused, as did most of the more mature women in the class. It was stupid and unprofessional and typical.

Nursing school is just something you have the endure. Maybe someday there will be enough men in nursing to change things.

Yeah, I forgot about the skits. How retarded is that? I guess I am trying to 'brain dump' most of the memories from school.
