I was there the day Mel gave Mr. Puggles that shot. I TOLD him to check the order but NO, he was a know it all even in 1981. So we patched him up with tape and gave him a little 02 and he was good as new. Mel was hailed as a hero for his quick action in saving the patient.

Yeah, Mel was hailed for his judicious application of duct tape with Mr. Puggles, but even Mel isn't infallible. Remember that time when he was chastising Mr. Higginbottom for lying, and Doc Watson overheard him as he walked by, then stuck his head in the room and said "No, Mel, I said Mr. H had A-fib, not that he told a fib!".

Mel was proud of himself now. The Dr. had only thought the patient had a-fib, but Mel knew the patient ALSO had a-tib. Sometimes doctors miss things!

A little background on Mel. After graduating from Clown College in 1972, he worked in various capacities in the clown industry, but he was met with bullying from other clowns. They stole his red nose, and sometimes hid his frizzy yellow wig, so eventually Mel was forced to go au naturel. A strange thing happened. Mel discovered that even bare-faced, for the first time in his life, people loved him, even small children and grandmas. Emboldened by their admiration, he decided to try acting. His first role was an orderly on Emergency! He assisted with brain surgery, hobnobbed with pretty nurses, and got to push people around. He realized that he had always had a repressed passion for nursing. The rest is history. Mel had found his "nitch." So much so that after nearly 38 years Mel has practiced his passion for nursing in at least 112 different hospitals and various NH's.
