Finally able to go to school

Nurses Men

Published

I'm a 24 year old male in Mi taking my first 3 of 7 required pre reqs before I can apply to the nursing program of my choice. I just wish I was able to go to school 6 years ago when I first got out of high. I just need motivation again this past summer has been rough but I promised my mom before she passed I will finish school and make her proud.

Hello!

First of all... my deepest condolences about your mom. I hope her memory will help you get through school and know she will be smiling for you. And, yes, she is proud of you.

Do not beat yourself about what could've happened a few years ago with school. What is really important is that you are now committed to move forward. Take one day at a time. Set small goals first, like passing your first 3 classes. Then worry about the next ones. Everything will open up for you. Be patient, proactive, and flexible. Think of this as a journey. It will take you to destinations you've never thought of before. Enjoy the experience.

I was 43 when I started nursing school; turning 47 in 2 weeks and I already have my ADN and BSN. I was stressing in the beginning, but then realized time would go by no matter what I did, so I kept going to school to better myself and become the professional I always wanted to be.

You can do this!

Hi there,

Just think of all the things that you know now that you didn't know when you just got out of HS.

We all come to things in our own time and at our own pace.

The 'what ifs" and the "I wishes" are not something to dwell on. Those statements/thoughts create negative energy.

Stay focused on putting one foot, or subject, or class behind you. That's what gives you positive energy that builds.

When you reach your goal, smile and say .... I'm proud of me! Look what I have done! I'm awesome!

Be strong, be brave, be everything you want to be!!!

People follow different paths, at different tempos. Many people don't go straight to college. I wish I'd entered my APN program 9 years ago instead of earning my masters in business. But I didn't and I still had some good experiences and growth in the past decade. There is rarely a right or wrong as long as you get to your destination.

Your timeline is your timeline, and no one else's. You are an adult now, possessing qualities that weren't there 6 years ago. Move at your pace, on your own journey.

wow, thanks for that, im 41 and going back into LPN program. I was a corpsman in the military. its funny, in the Military medics are mostly men. WHile in the civilian world, Nurses are mostly women.

anyway I digress, for the Original poster. 24 is a great age. I wish I can go back.
