Okay, I was born and raised in Spokane, and moved to TX about 6 years ago. I am now a L&D RN and am trying desperately to talk my husband into moving back to Spokane!!! He's not on board yet, but I am curious about a couple things... First of a...
  2. What would you do in this situation?

I agree with the above post... On my unit we give the patient the option to a) stay on with us on L&D, b) go to PP, or c) go to the women's gyn floor. We do what the patient is comfortable with. I too lost a baby (@30 weeks), so I understand b...

  4. Going up against a doc...

eh... It's not that bad!! I am confident in my exams, and if I am questioning myself I'll have another nurse check behind me... At least I'm not the 1 or 2 dr.'s no one wants to work with! And it's funny that that one dr. who didn't like my exam.....
  5. Going up against a doc...

Yes!! I've only been in L&D about 9 months... and let me just say my hospital has WONDERFUL OB's... but I did have a dr. a few months ago say the same thing that doc said to you.... about 45 minutes later the pt called out and said she was feeli...

I work for an HCA facility in Texas! I work in L&D on days... I work 3 12's with an occasional critical need bonus.... and I LOVE my job! I work with great people and for a great hospital.... I have a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio... and most of my co-wor...
  7. Help! Nightshift Nightmare

I felt the same way on night shift... I felt like such crap all the time... luckily I got a day position within a month. If it will only be two months maybe until you get a day position, I would try to stick it out - especially since you love the fl...
  8. Bizzare

Ahh... I love when the "dad" comes to the nurses station to ask if we can tell him the day the baby was conceived!!
  9. Opinions re: epidural vital signs

Sounds like overkill to me.... we chart q 5 min x 20 min after our epidurals... q 5 min x 90 min seems like way too much to me
  10. How do you wear your scrubs?

We have to wear royal blue. They can be any style and can have a different trim color. Basically the only ones I can find are the Urbane Scrubs (royal with lime trim). We are allowed to wear print jackets as long as they go with the royal blue
  11. New OB Nurses, Grads and Students, Please Feel Free to post your questions here:

No, I've never heard that... but maybe people have never said things like that to me because that is WHY I went to nursing school - to be an L&D nurse. First of all, let me assure you.... L&D nursing IS real nursing. L&D is a critical ...
  12. New OB Nurses, Grads and Students, Please Feel Free to post your questions here:

I am having a hard time remembering actual NANDA dx, but here's my best list for you: risk for infection, acute pain, constipation, risk for urinary retention... I'm sure there are many more that would work!!
  13. Funny OB things people say

We get lots of pts coming in for their "inducement"!! :) But a really good one I have is a direct quote, "Ummm... I was, like, standing in the kitchen, and, ummm, like, I think my mucous plug broke! I was, like, just standing there, and like it sta...

  15. Fundal pressure

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate it. I really just needed to have some nurses with experience tell me I wasn't wrong for feeling uneasy about it :)
