  1. Best ICU

I am looking at moving back to Okc (or surrounding areas) from AZ in 2022. I have more than 15 years ICU RN experience, most of that is in CVICU, although I am leaning more toward MICU as my current preference. Any advice on which hospitals have th...
  2. Liability Coverage.

    I have NSO also.
  3. Liability Coverage.

I've worked ICU for about 10 years & I have my own insurance. I just feel more comfortable knowing that my livelihood is backed by someone other than the hospital, who has their own agenda when problems arise. It's fairly inexpensive & I have...
  4. Protonix beads for g-tube

I agree with the above post regarding agitating the beads. If you mix it in apple juice & then let the beads settle to the bottom of the syringe or let them build up in the stopcock (if you use one) it's going to clog. Keep agitating them while p...
  5. Excessive mouth secretions

I've changed up my oral care in vented pts with excessive salivation by foregoing the oral moisturizer included in the kit. It helps quite a bit.
  6. Crowd funding: Yay or Nay?

I'm ok with giving if it is some devastating catastrophe type need, especially for someone I know. I'm pretty wary of anything else as I don't like the scam risk. I had a coworker's son die recently, gave money to them, but a friend set up an account...
  7. When entering orders, please remember....

I used to work with a nurse who would write "insensitive spirometer 10x every hour" on the whiteboard plan of care. I always wondered what the poor IS ever did to her to deserve that title.
  8. Would you feel uncomfortable with your coworkers caring for you?

I hope I wouldn't ever be sick enough to be admitted to the ICU where I am employed, but in the event I were, I know I would be in good hands. Some of us have actually hand picked who could take care of us if ever needed, in a somewhat joking way. I ...
  9. Ventilator Acquired Pneumonia

Just wanted to add, with VAE in place, it shouldn't change your project much, it's more for reporting purposes, not so much clinical practice, I believe. Didn't want to scare you!
  10. Ventilator Acquired Pneumonia

I agree you already have a population: vented patients. Just so you are up to date on your project, VAE (vent-associated event) algorithm has replaced VAP plans. Also, I was taught VAP is hospital acquired, but I believe the "A" in VAP is for associa...
  11. Pushing meds through NGT/OGT with the plunger

I rotate between plunger and gravity. Basically if what I'm giving (meds, returning residual, etc) is more than a 60ml syringe will hold, I'll attempt gravity so I can just pour vs detaching syringe & refilling it.
  12. Question on reacting to tachycardic afib

When new to nursing, I was taught QT prolongation was anything greater than 0.4 secs. My ekg book now states norm is
  13. Hourly rounding. Are you kidding me?

Oh geeze, that video just made me throw up in my mouth!
