About JennRN&Mom23

I graduated from the RPN program in 1995 and worked as one in a hospital for a few years. I returned to school full time and graduated with my RN Diploma 4 years ago. I work in general medicine and probably always will.

  1. diluting I.V lasix

I have never diluted IV Lasix.
  2. wearing perfume to work

We aren't supposed to wear perfume to work. I do usually put on a bit of light body spray though. No one has ever noticed.
  3. Floating to diffrent units in your hospital

Not sure of our policy exactly but they do often call in Medical nurses to look after admits in ER. I always say no to those shifts because you never know what you are walking into. Otherwise, I've seen them float from other floors to medical (from ...
  4. Worked my first night shift

I'm a bit strange I guess cause I really don't mind night shifts. Right now I do mostly nights, with some days thrown in (we do 8hr shifts). I worked FT nights when I was pregnant and it was great cause there wasn't quite as much lifting to do. I a...
  5. Age when you had your first child?

I was 19 when I had my first. I had my last baby at age 32 and I would have to say I was better prepared for a child in my 30's than I was at 19.
  6. Ever had a nurse or doc as a patient?

I've noticed that too. The worst family members I have dealt with were nurses. I never really understood that either. You would think they would be more understanding but they just seem to expect more of us.
  7. RN to pt ratio @ your hospital?

We do 8 hour shifts, primary nursing. So on days whether it's an RN or RPN..the ratio is 4:1, evenings is 5:1 and nights is 8:1.
  8. Intramuscular Injection Sites?

I always use dorsogluteal, it is what I feel most comfortable with. That is the site that most of the people I work with also use.
  9. I like Med/Sug-Isthat wierd?

I also love med/surg. It's not weird at all. I've been working on this unit for 10 years now and it's probably where I'll stay. It can get really chaotic and stressful at times but that's how I like it..:)
  10. Med-Surg Roll Call

Hi, I work on a Medical Unit (surg is separate at our hospital). It is in total a 70 bed unit with telemetry. I have been working there for 10 years in total (6 as an RPN and 4 as an RN). I loved it and can't imagine working anywhere else. I'm in Can...
