Sending resident to ER without a providers order.

A doc will have to write an order eventually but you should not delay emergency treatment waiting for an order. Was the DON suggesting you did the wrong thing? Because of course you didn't.

    Director of Inpatient Services

I think you should do both.

Am I going to regret my decision?

I think you are making the right decision. Stay per diem at the NICU if you can. If you haven't asked for that already you should. There are night shift people and there are day shift people. You are the latter.

    Psych clinicals w/ no inpatient?

This is pretty common these days. Schools lost their clinicals during covid, and sometimes didn't get them back. Also, psych hospitals since covid are frequently understaffed and unsafe for students and facilities. It's been quite a mess, and I say t...

    Ethical Question

Parents should talk to each other and work it out, rather than use providers to fight each other about what's best for their kid. Whether the PA should give an opinion that differs from the MD is not the actual problem in this situation. Parents who...

Does anyone pick up shifts from an app?

I did that for a little bit and I hated it. Generally you pass meds for 28 or so patients which for me is a nightmare. In my opinion there are better ways to make extra money. I have a per diem job and a full time job now. It doesn't hurt to ...

    Humiliated and scared

I'm sorry this happened to you. Once the dust settles, and you feel safe again, it will be time to evaluate this position. Your mistake was innocent. You are a human being, you needed sleep and your body got it. No one was harmed. What cau...

    Paramedics Criminally Charged/Convicted

I think it still stands that you should do what's in the patient's best interest. Clearly that didn't happen in this case though. The guy died. I feel like this paramedic is paying the price for a bad system. They've made an example of him. It's s...

I hate being in a monitoring program

So, I feel the need to say this. It isn't voluntary. If you are threatened with losing your license, that's not voluntary. What we have here is systematic abuse. To call it mental health care is Orwellian. Everyone involved is experiencing moral...

    EKG order

Whoever said that is either stupid, untrustworthy or both. Unfortunately there are plenty of them in healthcare. As long as you aren't completely surrounded by them and your boss isn't one, it's okay to ignore that person and keep on going. And as ot...

    Failed Orientation

I would not leave this job off your resume because it's your only experience, but I would try to find out why you weren't hired at the new hospital you wanted to go to. There's a reason you were rejected within a few hours. Your current employer may ...

Return to bedside part time - or not?

It sounds like you really want to do it and it sounds like it's right for you. Go for it!

Is this New Grad Residency Program...normal?

It sounds like CHOP. The rotating shifts is why I won't work for them. They are holding on to a dated way of doing things and losing a lot of people because of that, not to mention the risk to the patients.

I hate being in a monitoring program

That is so outrageous and toxic. I'm honestly flabbergasted. Why in the world does a system like this exist? Why would a nurse be punished for seeking mental health treatment? It makes no sense and seems to be in violation of your human rights.

I hate being in a monitoring program

Hey, I'm sorry you're going through this. It honestly seems like a racket. You should be able to get anonymous treatment IMO. What did you self report for if not for substance use?
