  1. What makes you love hospice?

By the way, LPN's in NE are not really allowed to pronounce but they do. If it's during business hours M-F 8-5 the case manager will pronounce (RN) if after hours, who ever is on call (LPN or RN) will go. Families are always grateful.
  2. What makes you love hospice?

It sounds like Randy & I work for the same hospice Co. Yes, I do all that he listed and somehow do have down times when you can help out your fellow coworker who is having a busy day. I make out my own schedule and can "at times" push someone to ...
  3. Best place I've worked is PICU. Worst is NICU. Too quiet/dark
  4. Does this bother you?

You even have to be 18 to work at Menards!!
  5. ethical problem... need opinions

I am a RN Case manager for a Hospice Agency and I can tell you it is not just up to the family to put someone on Hospice. First there must be a Dr's order to "evaluate and admit to Hospice if appropriate". Then A RN must go to the facility and "evalu...
  6. What's the weirdest baby name?

I went to my friends graduation a few years ago at McKendree College in Lebanon, IL and there was a girl graduating that day with the name Jekyll Ann Hyde (as in Jekyll & Hyde) She totally goes by the name Jekyll Ann. Wierd
  7. What squicks you out?

I can handle alot...and I mean alot but the one thing that buckles my knees is the pulling off fingernail or toenails. Holy crap that will put me to the floor!
  8. How do you give next shift report?

I work in The PICU and I like the way we give/get report. About 6:00 or so the charge nurse comes around and asks for a quick report. You tell her/him how the night/day went. The next shift goes into the report room and gets a quick down & dirty ...
  9. What weekends do you work?

I started out every other weekend. Now I am every third weekend (Sat/Sun night). We work 12 hour shifts. Day shift has set schedules and night shift has opted to self schedule. Our requirements include: your set weekends and at least 2 Fridays per 6 ...
  10. The Bullying Thread

I spoke to the orientee tonight and discovered that the Dr in question never did apologize. This is so unprofessional and upsetting not only to the nurse but to all of us nurses. I think the nurse ,as we all are, feels that if we say something or pus...
  11. Norwood procedure

Statically, these children have a low chance of survival due to the bacially single ventricle. We do the Sano procedure (RA to PA). Our Dr was concerned about this new "modified norwood" due to the fact he was putting a hole in the only ventrlie the ...
  12. Do You Have LPN's in your PICU?

Our Children's Hospital does not hire LPN's. We do have a very few LPN's on the med-surg floors but they can not float to the ICU's. They are there because they got in under the "grandfather clause" before Children's stopped hiring LPN's. I use to be...
  13. Your Worst Mistake

My worst "med error" was when I first started in the Pediartic ICU. We were really busy and I had 2 pts on q3h bolus feeds of MBM (maternal breast milk). This needs to be double checked with 2 RN's (or a care partner or a parent). This should be done...
  14. The Bullying Thread

We have a problem with one of our Drs. Actually he is the head of our department and should not be acting this way but what do do about it? We had an incident where one of our nurses was on orientation and one of our pts was going in the crapper and ...
  15. So, I found out that my first month of work as a new nurse....

I graduated in Dec 2002 and started work in the Peds ICU in Jan and spent the first month in classes. I was frustrated and thought there is no way I can do this. It is good info and try to concentrate. However, having said that, from experience, it w...
