  1. How into detail do nursing studies go?

Not only did we have to learn every bone in the body, we had to learn every notch, every part that sticks out, every hole, etc. For muscles we had to memorize what/where they attached to and inserted to. Needless to say I'm retaking that class lol.
  2. Nursing listed as 4th on a list of fun jobs.

Have you ever noticed that Nursing makes Yahoo's career lists for everything? Most Fun Most Rewarding Most Stressful Worst for Your Health (Just saw this one and the one below this one today too.) Best for Your Health
  3. Potential nursing students who dont want to hear the truth

Why would you even bring it up unless asked? If your kids told you they had a dream and that's what they wanted to do, would you say "Go for it?" or "Go for something you don't like and have no interest in that has more jobs available" ? The truth i...
  4. I don't know why some CNA's act like that. I am a CNA on a med/surg floor right now and I can't even conceive of aides talking to the nurses like that. I think that would be an immediate write up if not termination. We're all supposed to be on the sa...
  5. Wow They Are Really Serious - smokers not hired

I think it's total BS. If an employee chooses to smoke off campus, then it should not be a problem. However, it becomes a problem when employees think they have a right to their 15 min breaks, rather then it being a privelage (spelling?) when time a...
  6. First day of CNA clinical - Elder abuse?

Unfortunately, that's what happens in a lot of understaffed, overpopulated, inner city homes. My training too was in a LTC facility back when I was 18 and still "green." I couldn't believe how the staff treated the residents. Then after I went to wor...
  7. Need some input how to approach HR

Agreed with GrnTea, nowadays there are so many applicants that more than likely your application or resume gets lost in the shuffle. Go there and ask to make an appointment. You look much more driven that way and will stand out among the masses of ot...
  8. What NOT to say during an interview

Foot in mouth disease, will get you everytime... This just made my morning though, so thanks!
  9. I too have a matter of fact, blunt, sarcastic personality. It doesn't mean I don't love my job, I do! But a lot of people when they meet me think I'm rude, better then they are, etc., because I'm not grinning like a fool 100% of the time. I just am s...
  10. How did you get your hospital job???

It can take months sometimes to get a call back, or a rejection letter sometime. I applied in January and just now, last week, finally got an offer on a job. The hospitals are just flooded with applicants. I would say get that resume to really stand ...
  11. Thanks for the encouraging post! I have 2 kids and have to work full time, no matter what. School will always be a close second though. I want so badly to be a nurse, always have, and I know I will need to see posts like this along the way to keep me...
  12. Lifespan Psy condensed to 3 wks?

I'm in lifespan psych right now for a regular 16 week semester. It's an "easy" class but a LOT of terminology. Our teacher lets us use open notes for quizzes/exams which helps, but even with that you still need to know the material. Personally I woul...
  13. FT Mom, FT employee, going back to school

It can be done but it will be super hard! I too work full time, 40+ hrs a week, and have 2 small children. My fiance is a stay at home dad so that helps with child care but I still miss my kids. There are 2 nights a week I don't see my kids because I...
