Hi Mass Rns,
I just moved here from Michigan will be working in a community hospital for a traveling agency. Eventually I would like to be staff RN but unsure what hospital to plant my roots. I am living 15 mi NW of Boston. I have 7 years of ED experience. I worked in a Level I hospital. Please give me some insites on the hospitals(pay and benfits). Thanks
I just returned from south east florida. Spent four -five days searching for nursing jobs in ltc. First facility i went to, they dont hire RN's they have 3 in house and thats all they need????? second facility: d.o.n not in, they said to come back, i did , she was unable to see me, i left application. third facility
d.o.n stated no positions at this time, come back end of october due to low censes, i couldnt believe what i was hearing. Someone suggested i apply at agencies for RN medicare nurse visits for the assisted living facilities, did that
and now im back home and i still havent heard from them.
I talked to human resources at north broward med center. They said.
censes way down, they just closed two units, sending nurses home.
wow, so Florida does relay on snow birds. back home and not sure, maybe
i should just stay here, have ajob and visit florida few times a year
Hi, RN here in Mass. Relocating soon to Florida, south east like Ft. Lauderdale
I have tons of rehab subacute experience. I would really like to try working in hospital down florida with in the acute rehab . Can anyone recommend a few good hospitals. And , Can anyone quote some pay rates in acute rehab also
Isn't this the saddest thing you ever heard. Crabby nurses. from a nursing student. I have changed jobs quite a few times just for this reason. I have great difficult when im treated poorly by my peers. Ihave to just move on
because the atmospher is terrible to work in. And there is nothing worse then having someone speak to you with condescending tone of voice. I must say treated so terrible, I continue to speak to staff and resident with respect. I guess i just move on thinking it will improve else where.
The salaries in Florida are considerably more - mostly due to the shortage and overtime.
hi RN kitty
The rehab facility in florida? is this a hospital. I hope to be in florida september 2005 and i want rehab, and most ofyour rehabs are in hospitals as opposed to Mass where they are moslty in the long term care facilities, called subacute units
I also work in a free standing rehab, our ratios are 5:1 with 1 CNA.
That will be the day my life revolves around nursing!! I have a life & NURSING is now just a job to me. I might add, that while at work I give my best, but once I give report,I walk out that door & am not a nurse again till I walk back in. After 34 yrs in the medical field,I have to laugh at the newbies & their,"I'm going to save the world, cause now I'm a nurse" attitudes. This is my opinion only,so don't get offended or your dander up & if you do.....oh well !!!!!
Happy Holidays, :Snowman2:
still here in snowy friggid north shore area of Massachusetts, Iknow you will allthink im crazy, but i have had my florida RN license for three years and im have been tring to get get down there to work and live,i have been hereallmy fortysometing life and hadenough of rude people to deal with including within my profession an snowy an icy roads LOts of experience in ltc rehab andsubacute and just need to get down there and see how it is
yes i know that pay is leass but if you do research you might be surprised what you can getfor pay depending on what speciality is, I have been told over the phone by D. O. N, in pompano beach that with allmy experience shewill pay me $25 hourly. I have a few friends down there so i wont be going it alone, however one thing holding me back, i just interviewed at alocal north shore hospital and almost fell over at the pay rate i was offered so needles tosay, its rehab which i love but if job is offered i guess i will be staying here and vacationing in florida
I'm pretty sure that in Massachusetts, the DON [B]HAS to be an RN...at least at the SNF level. Look at your state's nurse practice act.
I am a recent graduate from St Johns River Community College in Orange Park Fl I passed NCLEX in October 04. I am currently working at Brooks Rehab on the Baylor shift.
My long term goals are to become a travel nurse when I get more experience.
Its nice to read about all the familar places in Florida.
Hey I am an RN Manager in a LTC (200) bed facility. I LOVE IT.
I am moving to Ft. Myers area the end of the week and am an RN. I have always loved geristrics. May I ask where you work? I have always enjoyed the one on one with the residaents and wouldn't care for adm. I don't believe you lose all skills. You become very good at assesment of pt. You get to know these pts, and you will know if something is not right. Give yourself more credit. Elderlt pts have so much to share and are so appreciative, keep up the good work. Don't listen to everyone else and do what you like best. Thay need you. K.Z.
That was so smart to obtain you Florida nursing license before hand. That was my biggest problem because I moved 2 weeks after applying for my license but anyway I just relocated to Jacksonville, Florida in the middle of Dec and I have interviewed at several LTC facilities and all had rehab units...but the hospitals also have rehab units..I can not tell you any info on the hospital in the area you are interested in but goodluck with your move and job search. I would suggest getting searching the web for hospital and LTC facility on line and start to inquire about jobs and benefits...Towanna
