I just returned from south east florida. Spent four -five days searching for nursing jobs in ltc. First facility i went to, they dont hire RN's they have 3 in house and thats all they need????? second facility: d.o.n not in, they said to come back, i did , she was unable to see me, i left application. third facility
d.o.n stated no positions at this time, come back end of october due to low censes, i couldnt believe what i was hearing. Someone suggested i apply at agencies for RN medicare nurse visits for the assisted living facilities, did that
and now im back home and i still havent heard from them.
I talked to human resources at north broward med center. They said.
censes way down, they just closed two units, sending nurses home.
wow, so Florida does relay on snow birds. back home and not sure, maybe
i should just stay here, have ajob and visit florida few times a year

Isn't this the saddest thing you ever heard. Crabby nurses. from a nursing student. I have changed jobs quite a few times just for this reason. I have great difficult when im treated poorly by my peers. Ihave to just move on
because the atmospher is terrible to work in. And there is nothing worse then having someone speak to you with condescending tone of voice. I must say treated so terrible, I continue to speak to staff and resident with respect. I guess i just move on thinking it will improve else where.

The salaries in Florida are considerably more - mostly due to the shortage and overtime.
the salaries in florida are much more, please tell me where. I hope to relocte to florida end of june, and if i can make close to what i do in Mass. wow. well anyway, even with over time in Massachusetts, yes you can make over 55,000 however, some of the perdiem nursing agencies which place me in rehab, ltc and subacute, are up to $35 an hour, so i guess i could make more then $55,000 if istayed here this year

That will be the day my life revolves around nursing!! I have a life & NURSING is now just a job to me. I might add, that while at work I give my best, but once I give report,I walk out that door & am not a nurse again till I walk back in. After 34 yrs in the medical field,I have to laugh at the newbies & their,"I'm going to save the world, cause now I'm a nurse" attitudes. This is my opinion only,so don't get offended or your dander up & if you do.....oh well !!!!!
    Happy Holidays, :Snowman2:
oh thank god, another RN who feels the same right now, for me thats all it is, job, i love what i do, hate corporate america, cant find a management team in rehab facilities that know what the hell they are doing. (me wonders how the hell most of them got those positions) anyway, same for me, when i am there im there and when i walk out the door, another life waits me

I'm pretty sure that in Massachusetts, the DON [B]HAS to be an RN...at least at the SNF level. Look at your state's nurse practice act.
    HI capecod mermaid,
Mass RN here, yes i agree, most don positions they have to be an RN
but i have to tell ya, 15 years ltc, i havent met a management team i want to work in in the last five years, Most now seem likethey either dont care
or they havent got a clue what the hellthey are doing and forget about weekend, they do better disappearing act than Houdini

I am moving to Ft. Myers area the end of the week and am an RN. I have always loved geristrics. May I ask where you work? I have always enjoyed the one on one with the residaents and wouldn't care for adm. I don't believe you lose all skills. You become very good at assesment of pt. You get to know these pts, and you will know if something is not right. Give yourself more credit. Elderlt pts have so much to share and are so appreciative, keep up the good work. Don't listen to everyone else and do what you like best. Thay need you. K.Z.
I see this post was in june of 2004 sometime, so didyou move to florida
and areyou working Ltc, that is my speciality also. But hospitals do have rehab units there, as opposed to Massachuseets, rehab units are in the Ltc
so my skills are pretty good. I would also like to move to Ft. Myers
sidyou find job and where and can i ask what pay rates are
    Thanks

That was so smart to obtain you Florida nursing license before hand. That was my biggest problem because I moved 2 weeks after applying for my license but anyway I just relocated to Jacksonville, Florida in the middle of Dec and I have interviewed at several LTC facilities and all had rehab units...but the hospitals also have rehab units..I can not tell you any info on the hospital in the area you are interested in but goodluck with your move and job search. I would suggest getting searching the web for hospital and LTC facility on line and start to inquire about jobs and benefits...Towanna
thanks for the reply, What was the pay rates for the long term care facilities
????? Whyand where didyou relocate from
