About Canuckgirl

I'm a BC girl born and raised, and love my city to pieces (Olympics had a part in that :D). I support gay marriage, legalized marijuana, and abortion, and have tremendous respect for the troops in Afghanistan (although I don't support the war).

  1. At what age did you decide on nursing?

Eleven years old- Writer. Twelve years old- Social worker. Fifteen years old- Nurse. Seventeen years old- Business Analyst, Microbiologist ( I'm now eighteen and have settled on Nursing for the most part :). Honestly though, I'm still a writer/Englis...
  2. Prestige or practicality?

Why are you so concerned with poop? It's not a big deal, I've stated this. I've worked in care homes and though I haven't dealt with poop (it was the other one), I know what the job entails. I've babysat babies and children. I'm not a squeamish pers...
  3. Prestige or practicality?

Thanks :) I was more worried that UBC's program is too short and wouldn't teach me all the skills I needed to know, but simply graduating for the "brand".
  4. Prestige or practicality?

There isn't a personality requirement for nursing (or economics) as far as I know :). I'm also a pretty detached person so handling poop, blood, and all that nasty stuff isn't a big deal for me. Looks like practicality is winning, anyways.
  5. Prestige or practicality?

Not among employers but other people... I know employers wouldn't give a rat's behind as long as you're qualified and experienced . And yeah I realize UBC is overrated (like many top universities) but the admission rat race appeals to the competitive...

  8. Prestige or practicality?

Thanks so much for the informative post!! It was really helpful and it's definitely nice to get the opinion of someone actually doing the program Haha I'm not sure what the employers think, but among my cohort, UBC is treated like the land of the ho...
  9. Prestige or practicality?

Money is a big draw; in fact, employment prospects happen to be the biggest factor for my cohort. Anyone who says it isn't is a liar, naive/idealistic, delusional, rich, or self-righteous, all of which I am not. However, that doesn't mean it's the on...
  10. Why are so many nurses so bad these days?

I think it's because people get into nursing nowadays because it has good pay, not necessarily because of a good heart. Therefore, a large proportion of modern nurses are compassionately bankrupt, and would rather spend time discussing their dates th...
  11. Prestige or practicality?

Hey ladies, I'm graduating high school this year and want to be a nurse, but my other aspiration has always been to be a graduate of UBC. However, I've been reading around the forum and the nursing program at UBC hasn't gotten very good reviews. It's...
  12. What is wrong with this public?????

Ugh I've worked in customer service since I was fifteen and it's helped to desensitize me to taking crap from the public. What helps the most is realizing it isn't personal, and the person is just frustrated and needs an outlet... Unfortunately that ...
  13. Where are you from?

I'm a B.C. girl, soon to graduate high school and hoping to be placed on the wait-list for Langara's RN Program. I will be attending VCC for some extra programs to pad my resume in the meantime, and might attend BCIT after to specialize :) My origin...
