  2. I'm hoping that someone can point me in the right direction. I'm doing a essay for uni looking at if there is any benefit for nurses or patient families if the nurses attend the funerals of their patients. If anyone has a personal experience to sha...
  3. Charge Nurses

In my ICU (8 beds) in Sydney Australia, the team leader takes a patient on the morning shift (when the nurse manager is available), but on the pm and night shift the team leader does not have a patient.
  4. Can anyone tell me the name of the urinalysis machine? I've seen them on some wards but can't remember the name. You dip the U/A test strip as normal then it fits into a drawer in the machine which reads the strip and gives a print out of the resul...
  5. Honestly: Do you wear gloves every time?

I too am guilty of not wearing gloves on occasions (usually for subcut injections). In Australia we are actually required by law to wear gloves. This is not just a hospital based protocol but is an addition to the Nurses Act.
  6. changing nasogastric tubes.

Just wondering if any units routinely change NG tubes. I'm sometimes concerned about the state of theses tubes and the possibility that they are a breeding ground for bacteria. My facility does not change NG tubes.
  7. Problems merging units

Just looking for advice. Recently, due to major hospital renovations, our High dependency Unit (HDU) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) were merged. This combined the staff of both units. The problem is that despite being together for several months the...

  9. Male Nursing

Robin MC you should be asshamed of yourself. I can only hope you don't generalise about your patients in the same way that you have generalised about male nurses. As a man and a Registered Nurse I am offended. I have (for the most part) had only po...

  11. nurse:patient ration in the ED

Just wondering what sort of nurse:patient ratio hospitals are working with. I'm only new in an aussie metropolitan ED and find my patient load varies from 5 to 8, in our acute section. What are other hospitals working with, what do people think is ...
  12. HIV positive nurses

As an Enrolled Nurse and Bachelor of Nursing Student, I am shocked by your feelings. What do you base this opinion upon? I cannot see the rationale for +ve nursing staff wearing gloves for all patient contact. The only explanation can be ignorance...
  13. Hi, I hope this is the right place for this. I'm doing an assignment for my Bachelor of Nursing program and am having trouble finding research comparing the 'no-touch' or 'transfer' technique with that of the 'wound field' technique. If anyone could ...
  14. NSW Graduate nurse program

Sorry, should have been more specific. BN is the Bachelor of Nursing, its the basic qualification for registered nurses in Australia. I'm undertaking my course at the University of Sydney. [This message has been edited by Hayden (edited 08-11-98).]
  15. NSW Graduate nurse program

I'm graduating (hopefully) from by BN at the end of this year and I'm wanting to hear about peoples experiences in new-grad programs. If anyone has anything good or bad to say about a particular hospital's program, then I'd love to hear it.
