  1. There are actually some alternating mattresses with special heel sections. I have seen one on a DFS3 mattress, can't remember the company though...
  2. That's better than most docs, but keep in mind that 50% of DVTs occur on the operating table. Intermintent Compression is much more efficacious than TEDs hands down. (not to mention the sizing difficulties and potential for heel ulcers with TEDs!)

  5. Assuming the docs are prophylaxing for dvt, compression stockings (foot, calf, thigh) are the way to go. Most can be used as combination with TED stockings, but are not needed. Given the high risk of DVT in totals, a mechanical prophylaxis is optimal...
