About fnp2b369

fnp2b369 has 17 years experience and specializes in OR.

I'm in graduate school earning my FNP. After I complete my Masters I plan to obtain my DNP in hopes of helping shape nursing policy. I strongly believe that the BSN degree MUST be the entry to nursing practice. I also beleive that all APN's should be educated at the doctoral level in order to acheive parity with other medical professionals.

  1. Unpaid Mandatory Meetings?

i think it's wonderful that you took your concerns to your manager and that she agreed to adjust the start time so that the mandatory meetings would be on-the-clock, paid time. That's the way it should be, IMO (and according to the labor board, state...

  3. Unpaid Mandatory Meetings?

I am not at work for "everyone," I am at work for me and my patients. You are attempting to guilt your co-workers into attending unpaid meetings which is manipulative behavior. I could care less how my attendance affects anyone else's paycheck. If ...
  4. I don't want to clean poop

Very true, sarose611!! As an OR nurse I work with CRNA's all the time and they specifically do NOT have the legal authority to furnish, only to administer drugs during surgery, as well as immediately before and after. NP's on the other hand have th...

It sounds like you might have some serious issues with psych nurses. If you had a mentally ill loved one wouldn't you want he or she taken care of by a caring and competent psych RN? Mental illness is real and psych nursing is real nursing. I start...

Thank you so much Purple_Roses, you hit the nail on the head!! I'm not an angel, just an ordinary human being who needs to be able to use and enjoy the little bit of free time I have. And I have stayed over many, many times to accommodate critical/u...

  8. I don't want to clean poop

I'm glad that you work for a good bunch of docs and that the pay is good. That must make for a pleasant, do-able job which is so important. It's too bad however that despite all that you are subjected to mandatory overtime on occasion. I don't have ...
  9. I don't want to clean poop

Actually hardly ever. I work in a union hospital so my breaks, meals and shift times are strictly enforced per contract. Also I now work in an ASU so there's no PM shift to relieve me if a case goes over. If I can see that a case won't finish on time...

I'm an OR nurse and I work Monday through Friday, 9:00-5:30.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I like to think I am a good OR nurse. Yes, I know more about the OR than you do. That doesn't mean you know less than I do. Conversely you know more about ICU than I do, but that doesn't mean I know less than you do. ...

Really? I beg to differ. I went directly into the OR after I completed my ADN program and passed boards. I've spent nearly 20 years there-I've never worked a day on my license that wasn't in the OR-and I've never felt I knew less than another RN or ...

Landing your dream job and going to grad school have almost nothing to do with each other. If you want to go to grad school then just go. I am working FT and am about to start grad school FT, an FNP program. My life will SUCK HARD for the next 20 mon...

I had no idea the VA had a mechanism in place whereby techs could earn their RN. This is very interesting, could you tell us how that works? Also, I thought all VA RN's had to have their BSN???

Hmmm, I have to disagree with you there. All this "put your time in the trenches" is nothing more than a sign of the times, IMO. When I graduated from my ADN program in '97 I swore on stacks of bibles I would be a direct entry into the OR and I made ...
