  1. Chest Tube HELP ASAP PLEASE!

In the pleurevac system, the air leak chamber will be filled with water (dyed blue). Bubbling is noted if there is an airleak in the system. It is literal bubbling-- the numbers 0-7 indicate how severe the air leak is. Air leaks can be intermittent o...
  2. Gum Chewing

I agree. Unprofessional. Freshen up on your break.
  3. How much lorazepam have you given....

Yeah, we have a lot of alckies where I work, and we frequently give enough Ativan to snow a buffalo!
  4. took nclex rn today and i have some Qs

I don't know. I took my boards in Wisconsin several years ago, and that's how it's still done here. There might be a link on the CA BON website that could answer that. I still think you did just fine, though!
  5. took nclex rn today and i have some Qs

First off, the type of questions you receive have very little, if anything, to do with how you did on the exam. Since you only got 75 questions, there are only 2 options: you either did really well, or really bad. I know everyone feels like they fail...
  6. Should I follow up?

By all means, let the ED manager know what happened. She needs to know how you were treated, and you might consider being honest in telling her that the reception you received influenced your decision not to transfer. I'm curious what the turnover is...
  7. Near death experiences stories

I work in an ICU, so as you can imagine, we run across this fairly frequently. several years ago, we had a young patient (40's?) who was hemorrhaging after surgery. He was hypotensive, vented, and unconscious (without meds) for almost 8 hours. A coup...
  8. is online ADN to BSN program difficult?

I completed my BSN online in March 2008 through Chamberlain College of Nursing. It was a lot of reading and paper-writing, but I was still able to work full time. It's all in how you manage your time. Good luck!:monkeydance:
  9. Silly boys! lol! It all depends on how you manage your time. Nursing school is a lot of work, but if you absolutely have to watch the playoffs, then just set aside time to study around the games. It's amazing how much you can get done during commerci...
  10. starting graduate school next week!

I just enrolled in an MSN program for nursing education. I start March 1 at Chamberlain College of Nursing. Where are you going for your degree? Good luck! Nursing needs dedicated educators.
  11. How much lorazepam have you given....

Wow. I think I win! We had a DT's patient that was on an Ativan gtt at 46mg/hr and ambulating. We ended up starting propofol to decrease the Ativan. Scary! I don't recall how much he drank daily, but it was something like a 30 pack of beer and a lite...
  12. Will a more expensive stethoscope ease ear pain?

absolutely. I would recommend a Littman. Even the less expensive Littmans have the soft, pliable ear pieces. They also let you hear things so much better than the cheaper ones. I have a Littman Cardiology III, and I love it
  13. pa lines/swan ganz

The pacep site is an excellent resource. Also try http://icufaqs.org/, and follow the link for PA lines. It's not interactive, but it's in a Q/A format that's easy to follow.
  14. New CCU nurse needs encouragement

I agree that you should work on CCRN certification. Even if you don't plan on taking the exam in the near future, the review courses are wonderful. There are a lot of "a-ha!" moments during these reviews. I started in CCU straight out of nursing scho...
