  1. CNA scope of practice

Scope of practice varies by state regulations and by specific facilities. For example, in the state of missouri, a CNA in a nursing home cannot do accuchecks, phlebotomy, insert foley's, hang IV's, Intubate patients, or run EKG's, even if trained a...
  2. I learned something cool! little tricks to make life easier

wrapping sheets or blankets around a patient is a restraint. it may save you time in bedchanges, but that is what you are there for. Why are my fellow CNA's always looking for shortcuts? And napping at work? I'm sorry, but that is unacceptable, y...
  3. Think CNAs will pick up LPNs duties in hospitals?

As a CNA in a Hospital that no longer employs LPN's, I can tell you that the CNA's have picked up many of the LPN duties. And the pay rate is FANTASTIC. Starting pay for an experienced CNA in the hospital is $17/hr. That is with a minimum of 5 yea...
  4. More CNA woes.

Well, one has to be an example to others in all things. And what right do we have to expect change in someone else if we are not willing to change ourselves? It only makes sense.
  5. More CNA woes.

Wow, thank you! I can tell you one thing, after being a CNA for so long, I will be very appreciative of my aides. Good ones that is, the not so good ones? well, quite frankly, they will be unhappy with me as a nurse. I know only too well what is ...
  6. More CNA woes.

I have one last comment to make on this issue. If you don't like the way things are, find ways to change them. Your happiness in all aspects of life, is your responsibility. Always place the first blame on yourself, and look for ways to improve YO...
  7. More CNA woes.

I am a CNA and have been for 20 years. I have worked in LTC and in hospital settings and I feel that my two cents is just as important as an RN's. As a nursing school student, I can see both sides of this "argument". As a CNA, I have to say that we ...
  8. No More Fingersticks for Techs!!

I've been doing it for years as an aide in the hospital here in missouri. The nurses never had any problem with it, it is standard practice. It frees up the nurses to do their jobs.
  9. Racist Patients

We now live in a global world, all races, creeds, sexualities, etc. There is no more room for insensitivies to one another. It is up to each of us to stop judging anyone based on anything other than how we are personally treated by an individual. ...
  10. No More Fingersticks for Techs!!

I just want to say something to both sides of the coin here. As a current CNA and nursing student I definitely see the pros and cons of both sides of the issues. As a CNA/PCT, I am trained and have taken the competency validation course once a year...
  11. how much do you make an hour/year?

Gee, the variables just in one are are so diverse. When I was a CNA in one LTC facility the going rate was $6/hr. Another 15 miles away I made $10.50/hr. CNA in hospitals make considerably more, but then you have more responsibilities. The range h...
  12. Racist Patients

Racism never had, doesn't now, nor ever will have a place in our society, and certainly not in the healthcare industry. Regardless, of how we are treated, and how we feel about it, the best we can do is point out to the offender that their remarks a...
  13. No More Fingersticks for Techs!!

Every hospital I ever worked in always had the CNA's do them. Once it is done, we chart it. If it is out of the "normal" range, we personally notify the RN after charting so the nurse can assess the situation.
  14. AMEN! finally someone with sense! I think the nurses that are replying negatively to my posts are the C students LOL
  15. I think this nurse like myself realizes the importance of those grades will benefit them in the hiring process. Grades matter people. They show intelligence, perseverence, and the general attitude that is necessary for success in ANY profession.
