We use 0.5% lidocaine intradermally prior to port access. Most of our pt's request it with the exception of our sickle cell pt's that have had their ports for years.
I also liked to use a flowsheet type paper when working in the hospital. I created an excel spreadsheet that contained spaces for pt name & room, dx, MD, diet, VS, lab, activity, misc. just whatever you find most appropriate for you. You can personalize it anyway you want. I also created a flowsheet for my medications. If you are not experienced with working with excel, shoot me an email and I will help you create one. firstname.lastname@example.org
I worked at BMH-GT for 12 years. My area is definitely not psych. The hospital is not well spoken of by it's employees overall. Although, I have not ever heard anyone speak of any problems with that particular area of nursing.
I received my degree from Excelsior in 1993 and I had no problems obtaining my license from MS.
