  1. Introductions

I live West of the Milwaukee Metro area and work in Milwaukee. I have been a nurse since 1978. Great to see a Wisconsin board.
  2. Bait and switch sign on

I kept the written info where things were circled by the recruiter in the interview, but a circle around things in the pamphlet were not good enough for the powers that be. I let it go for the sake of my mental health and tried to concentrate on the ...
  3. Bait and switch sign on

Has anyone been promised a sign-on bonus, Holidays off, personal days at the intervue and then been told after orientation starts that these things were never offered?! This happened to me and I have heard of it happening at another LTC facility, an...
  4. Update and a few more questions.

Madison- a great environment for a young, single nurse. Also great for someone who wants to llearrn more about his/her field. Sheboygan- great for a family with kids. Not much for a single person to do. St Nicholas has a "home town" reputation, I don...
  5. Expectations of agency nurses

I worked agency for awhile and upon reading your comments found myself getting sick because everything you say is true, I know, because I have lived it.
  6. Introductions

Started working in the Milwaukee area 1 year ago. Lots of Hospitals, lots of job opportunities, pay not that good, age discrimination in an era of nursing shortage?! Anyone else out there from this area? Terrina

  9. ...The Young Also Eat the Old

I moved a year ago from one area of the country to my original "home state". I took a job in a large University setting and stayed only 2 months because of the attitude of the younger staff. I was set up, yelled at in front of my patients, ignored, t...
  10. I think some hospitals may use the excuse that there are no nurses out there to crunch as many patients into the place, sometimes finding beds in unusual places while harried nurses keep on admitting them. Our hospital uses no caps on admissions and ...
  11. Anti-depressants anyone?

did you ever wonder why so many nurses are on antidepressants? Are we just so much more open to telling that we are depressed? Or is it the access we have to MD's who may understand the work situation we face? Lately I have thought that we may be fac...
  12. burned out and fed up

I have been working in hospitals for 38 years, have been an RN for 24. Havbe been in many different Types of nursing from psych to ICU to Home Care. Burn out every 5-6 years or so. Need to redirect my "sails" and get into something new. That is one b...
  13. Calling for all opinions!!!

I think 5:1 ratio on a step down unit is too much especially when you are titrating, get all types of patients. I work 4:1 ratio on the general floor and that is heavy at times! (course there are no CNA's to help and RN's do everything!
  14. Smokers vs Non-smokers

I think it is interesting that staff who smoke ALWAYS get their breaks, even though other staff are too busy to even sit down for a minute to chart. I get shocked when people hand me their pager so they can go out to smoke on break and I haven't been...
  15. Recruiting and hiring

when moving from one part of the country to another last year for family reasons, I applied at 7 different hospitals. I got appointments/call backs from 2 of the 7 hospitals. I have over 20 years varied experience and a good work record. One hospital...
