  2. Meds at bedside

Very Good points, I agree that meds should not be left at the bedside. We do not know if the pt. will take them or forget about them. Also I do not know how many times my patients have dropped there pills on the floor or in the bed, with me right th...
  3. As a New grad my unit was very supportive and resourceful, I never felt alone, but did feel ready to work independently and find my "routine", as opposed to my preceptors. Six weeks was enough orientation for me,but I also did my preceptorship in sch...
  4. cadavars

Learning the muscles from a cadaver is so real compared to the books. You will learn a lot. When it got real stinky we would put vicks under our nose to cover up the smell!
  5. I work for HCA in California and started right out of school. My orientation was 6 weeks, but because I had to wait for my results of NCLEX it ended up to be about 8 weeks. I was working as an interim permitee. I also did my preceptorship on the same...

  10. what to do with DNR

Also DNR does not mean comfort care! Comfort care is usually specified.
  11. what to do with DNR

As far as I am aware, DNR does not mean not to treat. On our unit we have some specifics, but I have never heard of withholing insulin. There is a specific form for ACLS meds, compressions, intubation, assisted ventilations and defribillation, The doc...
  12. Info needed

We have a charge nurse on every shift for every unit. We also have a nurse assistant manager and nurse manager, who are mostly present on day shift. The managers take call if a shift cannot be covered and try to be present on occasion for other shift...
  13. Nurses rat on nurses

Patient safety always comes first. If a fellow nurse needs assistance teamwork is imperative. Patient care is improved with teamwork. Help eachother and CYA. I am very pleased with assistance I get from other RN's at my job, but if a patient's safe...
