  1. Nursing school not that hard?

Well, IMO, nursing school does not get any easier ever. It has its ups and downs, but basically you have to readjust your way of thinking and you are always building on the knowledge you already have. I am in my last semester. 5 weeks to go! woo...
  2. Has anyone bought these books?

I used test sucess my first semester and it helped me alot. You get a feel for how to answer these types of questions.
  3. Your school's graduation ceremony?

We have 2 pinning ceremonies a year, one for the December grads and one for the May grads. We also have the option of walking graduation in May with the rest of the college. Our student nurse organization pays for it all through fundraisers. Its r...
  4. Burnout

I know how you feel. I am totally exhausted, but I just keep chugging on. 5 more weeks......
  5. I am taking my exit class right at the moment (5 1/2 weeks to go!) and we have to submit a position paper on an ethical issue in medicine. Other than the biggies-stem cell research, embryonic screening- I am having a hard time coming up with anythin...
  6. Clinical day preparation

Clinicals get alot easier the further along you get. Just be ready for anything and you dont get suprised. It does help alot to be prepared the night before. I also suggest writing out an assessment sheet with a place for everything from your head...
  7. Physical Assessment

I would say this is fairly common in an ADN program. We learned how to do an assessment in short order and had to show them we could do it in a couple of weeks. I remember practicing on any available body. That is the best advice I can give. You ...
  8. Being "Mom" and "Student"...

Juggling is a good word for it. I was a SAHM before I went back to school -OMG-3 years ago. My children are currently 5 and 7. I am going into my last semester in August. When I look back it is amazing that I have come this far. (my husband, alth...
  9. Does nursing school go by fast?

Nursing school flies! I feel like I just started and I am getting ready to go take my final for my 3rd semester classes. Only ONE more to go!!! WOOOO HOOOO!!!!!
  10. Dwindling class members?

We started out with 40, dropped to 25 after the first semester. We are down to 15 who actually started out at the beginning with me. We did pick up 11 LPN's in our advanced placement program, but two of them have failed classes already.
  11. Med-Surg burnout please help!!!!!!!

Psych is kinda nice, but be ready for more med surg! It never stops
  12. Hmmm, I can't say I would reccommend nursing school with a newborn unless you are willing to 1) take time off if the need arises. If you develop complications and are put on bedrest, you would have to drop your classes. 2) You have a fabulous babys...
  13. I have 2 children ages 7 and 5. I am in my third semester of a 4 semester program. My husband works very long hours and very long distances and I have been a single mom mostly. My mom has been fabulous in helping me to achieve this goal. My best...
  14. Fundamentals?

Fluid and electrolytes were definently the worst for me. The worst part of them is that everything else you learn in patho classes deals with them too. They are so very essential and all the s/s are so utterly the same.
  15. Any one going to Rend Lake college or Kaskaskia

Oh my my! SO many KC students here. Hey Lucky Angel, I just got outta cardio too...bet we know each other. In OB now...lots of fun. As far as Rend Lake vs. KC, um last I knew Rend Lake was on probation for poor NCLEX pass rates. KC's were at abo...
