  1. Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences?

In my 2nd to last semester. The online Help Desk is a nightmare. They can't "HELP" with Turn It In, a submission that the school requires you to use. Issues with resubmissions take 24 hours so you'd better be on the ball and turn in your work ear...
  2. Why lvn's /lpn's should not work in labor and delivery

I would wonder how the state board of nursing defines the LPN's scope of practice. Whatever issues the OP has with the LPN are not the issue. In our state, LPNs handle "routine" or low risk cases. In no way can L&D be considered routine or low ri...
  3. Toradol? Do you give it to breastfeeding moms?

To moms with a C-section yes, we give 2 doses IV push every ?6 hours 30 mg if I recall correctly then switch over to oral ibuprofen 600 mg every 6 hours prn; moms with vaginal delivery receive ibuprofen (prn basis) every 6 hours.
  4. Petrified when handling residents that expire...

When I read your message, I went directly to reply saying to myself, "I get that." :redbeathe My heart goes out to you. I think that if we forget that these are someone's loved one who passed on, we should not be in nursing. It appears that you ar...
  5. Cervidil

We also do 1 RN to 2 inductions (cervidil); once patient reaches second stage, ratio is 1 RN to 1 patient.
  6. OB for NICU Nurses :)

Easy way to remember V E A L C H O P Variable Compression Early Head Accel Ok Late Placental
  7. Hello -- hope you can help me. I am looking for a plastic card that is a recognition tool for EFM strips. We have one at work but no ID on it to see where it came from. I've also seen some small plastic ones that fit behind your indentifcation bad...
  8. New Grads after 6 months: How do you feel?

You have to laugh at your mistakes. As you said, if the patient doesn't get hurt, it's okay. I have one of the charge nurses that "eat their young." It's been tough to deal with but the last day we worked together, she actually complimented me and...
  9. Checking Placement of PEG

No question asked is "stupid." That is how we learn new things -- nursing is constantly changing, updating based on evidence-based practices. Believe me, I have a lot of questions! Keep asking and keep learning!
  10. Checking Placement of PEG

We use air bolus but testing contents by pH is much more accurate. I would never, ever give anything down a PEG without checking placement.
  11. After I pass the NCLEX I am going to.......

Step out of the darkness and into the light. It's over, time to apply all that knowlege, and really get down to the reality of nursing! :balloons: I believe there is a beach chair with my name on it too for a few hours!!
  12. Has anyone used meds pub (website) to help prep for NCLEX-PN??

So sorry, just noticed tne PN -- I am taking the RN exam -- so sorry. My response may not help you with the PN. My suggestion is to do something online or at least a question-based review in an NCLEX style. I am currently in a Medspub review this ...
  13. Graduation today!

Finally! Graduated today in the top 20% of my class and was asked to stand and be recognized for my GPA today!!! Wasn't that a pleasant surprise to me and my family! I was 12th in a class of 64! Pardon me while I toot my own horn for a second!! ...
  14. +Nursing caps

Getting ready to graduate in June -- Glad we don't have to wear them. Tradition or not, times change. I always thought they were impractical as noted by the bedpan incident above! And . . . we used to use abestoses to rest hot pots on from the sto...
  15. Interviewing questions

New grad in June -- asking for input on questions to ask during interview. I' m thinking the following: 1. How long is orientation? 2. Will I have a preceptor and how long. 3. Pt to nurse ratio, does the hospital do team nursing (RN, LPN and/o...
