Meeting AHPRA requirements as a International Trained Nurse from the Philippines

Published

Hi everyone.

So I've already received an email both from AHPRA and LTU's Admission's Coordinator and so far the issue of "expiring letter of eligibility during the bridging program" has not been clarified, it's actually been more confusing.

I emailed AHPRA that the next available intake in LTU would be in May. If ever I do apply for that intake, i'll be finishing the BP sometime in August and my LOE would've already expired by then. I asked AHPRA what would be the implications if that happened and the case officer sent me this email:

Dear Marc,

Thank you for your recent enquiry to AHPRA.

You mentioned that you will be finishing the Bridging Program sometime in August and I can see that your Eligibility will be expire on the 3/08/2013, I am wondering if you can provide me with an accurate date of completion?

If this date is beyond your expiry date, there is a good chance that your application may be found incomplete and therefore withdrawn.

Were you able to contact any other Education Providers that offer this program and that can enroll you in earlier?

Please do not respond to this email as the account is not monitored. A service request has been logged for this enquiry; your service request number is (VIC*********).

If you have any further questions, please call AHPRA on 1300 419 495. Alternatively, please follow the web enquiry link, ensuring you include the service request number in your enquiry.

Kind Regards,

Simultaneously, I was in contact with LTU's Admission's Coordinator and told her about this issue. Her input was in contrast with what the case officer has told me. Here's the coordinator's email:

Dear Marc,

It is interesting that your case officer has stated that, as the University has been given approval from AHPRA regarding the validity of the commencement date as per the following email (regarding another student):

Dear ******,

Thank you for your email.

As long as the letter is valid at the time they commence the program they will still be eligible for registration upon the completion of the program, assuming that they pass that is.

She will still be eligible for registration even though her letter expires prior to the completion of the course.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me directly on ********* or through email ***********@ahpra.gov.au

Sincerely

With everything that's been said, i'm completely confused right now. So, I've emailed AHPRA again regarding this matter. In the meantime, I've told LTU's coordinator to hold my application until I get a response from AHPRA. By the way, the next available intake for LTU is on the 7th of June 2013.

hmm.. now who to believe?!?!?! how come they have different answers :(

Hi fellow applicants with expiring LOE esp patringrn and pringxoxo,

In case you will have no choice but to re-apply, will you lodge your application to AHPRA VIC? Or just try another state like QLD or NSW where kind and considerate case officers are found?

will have to think about that..... :(

hi Stereo ,

I would prefer to apply for QLD or NSW if thats the case.. but what mbtaRN post somehow gave me hope.. I wish to come up with something that will clarify all this things.. Maybe, we could ask for someone who have finished the course.. Someone who experienced this matter before..

thanks pringxoxo

Okay, so i'm guessing it depends on our respective case officers. If my case officer says I am still eligible for registration even if I have an expired letter of eligibility as long as I have accomplished a bridging course, then I would hold on to what he/she have said and decide from there. At least if ever anything goes wrong, which I hope it won't, I have someone to back me up.

Hi, you might consider taking a look on this website. Its more detailed and comprehensive. This is the one I used as reference before and I got no problem.. :)

AusPhilRN: Standard CV/Resume for Overseas Trained Nurse

thank you for the reply, but what i mean here is the reference for CLINICAL/PROCEDURAL SKILLS that is a part of APHRA's standard CV... so i want to clarify if it's fine to use this /mcintranet.musc.edu/clined/PCTStudentTech/CON Nsg Skills Checklst MUSC.pdf. for my CV, even though, somebody already used it in the past. what did you use on this part of CV? thanks

I just basically put my job description on that part (the one that was written on my resume), and they never say anything about it.

ah, thanks for the info... i just want to clarify, after you finish the BP, thats the only time you can register @ aphra? and all overseas nurses coming from nonEnglish speaking countries all need to undergo this BP before they can work in Aus?

Hi pinkmarjattheER,

I am still not sure. I will call them tomorrow to confirm. I will be glad to be your mate.. Will update you also once everything is final..

please ensure that you have that in writing from your case officer so that you have something to hold on to. :)

IHNA just e-mailed me.. I am for this august 27 2012 bridging program. :) which means that my eligibility would still be valid by the time the BP ends!!!! praise God for this blessing :)

to those who are still looking for schools, try IHNA they are very accommodating :)

patringrn,

I really don't know a lot of things about bridging programs since I did not go through it. AHPRA exempted me from doing the BP.

But I guess you can ask AHPRA about it.

God Bless.
