I just finished my first rotation with a doctor that acted like I was a fly chasing him around. He would get very annoyed at my questions, so I wanted to ask the one I am most confused about here. In the primary care setting how do providers see if a medication is covered by insurance? Is this a function of the EHR? or is there some other way they determine this? I know that all EHR are not created equal. Thank you for any feedback.

Epic has some functionality to say what is and is not covered. But even that’s limited and often inaccurate. Many EMRs don’t. All insurance companies I’ve worked with post their formularies online.
