I think that is good because they will have more money for food and living expenses. I do not know if it will reduce the cost on the tax payers from smoke related diseases though if they are already elderly. maybe.

The whole smoking issue is ironic. The politicians certainly make laws that favor and allow cigarettes to be sold. If they were really that concerned about the cost to tax payers, they would legislate tobacco laws differently. When it comes to the tax payer, consider yourself an indentured servant. Adding impetus, the gubment thinks we're all too stupid to see through them. Just dangle a couple of baubles to John Q. Public and they'll buy into anything. Unfortunately, many do.
