medical terminology?

Published

The college I am (hopefully) going to no longer asks for you to purchase a med term workbook... I would love to get one still, though!! I learn easily with workbooks!

Just curious... has anyone stumbled across some GOOD med term. websites?

TIA!

I like this one:

To bad you can't take the class...... it was one of my favorites! Lots of fun....

Good luck, hope this is helpful!

tutusandfrogs (I keep picturing that in my mind!) I would strongly recommend that you take a good look at your textbook, particularly the very first pages, sometimes the back inside covers, and sometimes the very back of the book cover. Nowadays, many of the textbook publishers have companion websites that go with these textbooks. They will publish the websites in their little section of the front of these books where they get to boast and take credit for this work of fact that you are about to use for your course. PLEASE, take advantage of visiting and checking out these online resources and student help centers that go with your books. Bug your instructors for the access ID's or whatever you need to get into these sites because when you bought your textbooks, you also paid for the privilege to access them. I have been using them extensively for math classes I've been taking and what I'm finding is that the instuctors don't even mention these resources to the class. And, when I've asked for the school ID I need to input at the registration page, the instructors know what I'm talking about, but have no idea what the ID is because no one has ever asked them before. One of my current instructors is currently calling the textbook salesman to get the ID number because she didn't know it and I guess I'm the first student who has ever asked her for it. The second half of the registration ID came with my textbook when I purchased it. You will, many times, find all kinds of exercises to help drill you on concepts and important facts you need to learn in order to continue on in your study of the material. There is nothing as patient as computer programs that drill you over facts. And, this drilling is how you memorize and come to learn and understand concepts. You can't start to apply concepts to practical problems until you learn the basics. These sites, and more of them listed within your textbook, have links or web addresses to interesting information that can help you understand the concepts you are supposed to learn. So, take advantage of these resources because, believe me, you paid for them already when you paid the huge amount of money for the textbook at the bookstore.

i am taking medical terminology this semester (on line). thanks for the websites!! i have them marked in my favorites now! lol!! it is nice to have some extra study material and places to practice on line! my class uses a book called the language of medicine (7th edition) by saunders, i like the book but i also like getting quizes and such from other resources to be sure i am learning the info and i can't cheat on my practice pages lol! you know what i mean, where you read the question and ramble it around your head and then you know you can look in the book to confirm before you commit an answer! lol no the online quizes that the instructor gives you can't do that as the time limit is short.

I recommend taking med term if you can. I feel like a have a leg-up on some nursing students because I have more comprehension in my medical reading because of the class. A lot of schools offer the class online and it's not a real time-consuming class. A good med dictionary is also important - not just for the terminology, the pictures are fascinating! Every time I try to look something up I get side-tracked by a picture I see!

so glad to know i am not alone there! lol!! or do you find if it was something really interesting you start running searches to see more on it? i have that one happen too.

yes! the bad thing is that i had a mild case of folliculitis a few weeks ago and went home to look it up just to see if there was a picture! the picture was horrible and sent me a little over the edge! but...i took the picture and showed it to my roommate and said "look what i have!" :) she hates stuff like that!

I am taking a Medical Transcription course (which in all, takes about 1 1/2 years) and a huge portion of it is medical terminology. It is very interesting and makes my classes so much easier when I already know a vast amount of the prefixes, suffixes, root words, and have already seen (and dictated, lol) many medical terms and abbreviations.

I'm sorry... I must have been understood. There is a medical terminology portion of the nursing arts class... but it doesn't require a workbook. I started to take it at one point so I had a work book, and boy did it help!! So would really like to get one just for myself anyways!!

Thanks for links though!!

Daytonite... I actually have an image of that hehe!! I wonder if there is anyway to share it? Also... I am not a student yet... so I haven't bought any of the books yet. I am just "hunting and gathering" information at this point! I am still waiting for "the letter." BTW.... thanks for always coming up with a link for something, you're the best!!

Great advice above. I loved med term, and found that it gets progressively easier.

Good luck
