New to nursing - ward routines?

I have just started on a medical ward. I had a week of supernumerary and then I started on my own. As you can imagine being a brand new nurse, I am overwhelmed to say the least. I'm frustrated that I am not able to spend the time with my patients that I want to (and was able to during my placements) but I am positive that once I work out my time management and become more efficient I will be able to do that.

I'm curious about the different ward routines that you have?

We have 7-1530 mornings, 13/1330-2130/2200 afternoon shift and 2100-0730 nocte shift.

Generally the morning shift has 4-5 patients, and the afternoon has 6 patients per nurse.

I've done mostly afternoons, so trying to get my head around getting everything done....

I was thinking that if you share your routines I might be able to pick up some hints or tips.

I absolutely love this job, I've only been an RN for 2 weeks, and still feel like I'm in over my head, but I know in my heart that this is the job I was meant to do.

just like you Michelle123, I am still working with time management in medical ward with an average of 85 to 100 or more patients. If you can master 3-4 patients. with only 1 or two nurses during the night shift, it is really hard especially when a code blue is going on. don't be frustrated with not spending much time with the patient since there are other works to do... just sharing my experience in medical ward

You'll develop a routine as you gain experience. Your orientation sounds way too short. If you're uncomfortable I recommend requesting more time in orientation as well.
