Specialties Med-Surg

Published

Hi everyone! I just got accepted for the RN Residency at Methodist and I would want to ask for some helpful advices. Does anyone here had the experience of working at MSTH? How was it? Can you guys share your personal experiences? I am really nervous yet also excited since I'll be working at the Med-Surg unit. I chose it over all other nursing specialties since I believed it's a good starting point for building your foundation in bedside nursing. Hoping for your response! :)

There's a lot of float RNs and unhappy core staff. I have known a few residents "thrown" on the floor early and with no notice. You will get your experience but be prepared to have a very "emotional" first few months.

Wow! That was a bit mind boggling! Can I ask what kind of cases do they usually have and what are the things I should expect? I am assigned to the Surgical department though I applied for the Med-Surg unit. Does that mean most of my exposure will be on surgery?
