My hospital has had us all go to an 8 hour class filled with talk of scripting, spouting out "can I get you anything, I have the time ?" They are supposedly turning the pyramid upside down in the hospital, meaning that we as the staff nurses and others on the floor are bosses. They said that administration would be found picking up trash, etc. My question during the class was which member of administration would come in to help us when our staffing is poor...no volunteers. Just wondering if anyone else was being subjected to this, in an ideal situation it would all be a good idea but they should first improve staffing/salary and they will see the biggest increase in smiling happy nurses.

Oh My Gosh, I'm ONLY Fifty-three! How Am I Going To Figure Out WHAT To Say To My Patients Without A SCRIPT??? Been through it. Thought it was ignorant then and think it's ignorant now. I have NEVER used the script, but I tell patients about it all the time. It's always good for a laugh. How in the world do they come up with this stuff? Right now somebody somewhere is probably fuming over this reply, and to you I say, "How can I help you to STOP THE INSANITY??? I have the time."
Glad to see that the overall response is humor with you too. I called to PACU for report the other night and the nurse who answered the phone said, I'll just take the cordless to that nurse because I HAVE THE TIME! I have never used this phrase with a patient and promise that I NEVER will but just as you said it has brought us all some laughs. They paid 1700 of us employees right down to housekeeping 8 hours to attend this class...but there is no money in the budget for more than 2% raises!

When admin comes to the floor and asks the staff, "Is there anything else I can do for you, I have the time." THEN it may be time for staff nurses to start- tell them they need to set the example and you will follow, LOL.
Good suggestion, I might bring this up at the next staff meeting! Sure they will all jump right on it :rotfl:

Love it! :chuckle :chuckle
We had that 'training' too. This weekend, with 7 patients apiece on our telemetry floor, the charge nurse 6 (this is day shift, folks!), I DID say to myself "I am going to the bathroom - I have time".
