I got by with a modicum of Spanish. It took several years to feel confident. I never felt I was good enough to take the exam my hospital offered to be designated bi-lingual.

It was a combination of classroom Spanish and taking home any standard forms we used to admit and assess patients and translate the English to Spanish, with the help of my Spanish speaking co-workers. I was fortunate to have several Spanish speaking co-workers who appreciated my effort and were always there for back up.

My husband became fluent taking classes and was able to spend time in Mexico. He used to watch Spanish TV with closed captioning.

I also have very basic Spanish until I recently take some online Medical Spanish course. It was on a self-paced eLearning platform. So I can learn when I am free. The course was amazing and magical!!! Love it!!

It did take me more than 40 hours to learn as it claims that their curriculum is 40 hours because I am slow in learning.

It is not cheap but compared to the quality, so worthy.

I took Medical Spanish through a community college, but I would have been better off taking conversational Spanish. My Spanish was not at the level that the Medical Spanish class was.

When I lived in Austin, I took the Travis County Medical Society's Spanish Meducation course, which is taught by a superbly wonderful woman! However, with work and school commitments, I ended up not attending the last few classes and didn't have the self-discipline to actually study it. Oh well. At least I've got Duolingo ?

Do you mind sharing where you took this through?

I found the website www.medicalspanish.com and the website states that it provides 25 CEU units, but we need to check w/ our state BRN if we have questions. I live in CA so I always verify before purchasing. Also, if anyone is using this course, is it worth while and the money? The tutorial I really enjoyed.
