Yes, I've been to Vietnam twice. I highly recommend going on a medical mission.

DMAT- Disaster medical assistance team, in the US.

DMATs are composed of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, RT's, paramedics, EMT's, and a variety of other health and logistical personnel.

My coworker did this and she loved it, as an ICU nurse.

Do most of these require 2 years of acute care experience first? I'm pretty sure Mercy Ships does.

Community Coalition for Haiti!

Amazing organization that takes trips throughout the year to Jacmel; I spent one week with them in March. They do a variety of trips (medical, alternative spring break, PT, education) & you will be safe - they own a house that travelers stay at during their time there & keep security guards/translators with the group at all times.

I've looked at Mercy Ships too, but my ultimate goal is the VOMedical. Not your typical medical mission, but very important.

But no, at this point I haven't done one.

You may want to consider Haiti Outreach Mission. Have a friend that has gone on several missions , life changing for her.
