Medical diagnostic recovery unit?

Published

Hi! Just wondering if anyone has worked or knows anything about a medical diagnostic recovery unit.

Thanks!

never heard of it. Hope someone answers!

How could we have functioned before Google??? Anywho (as my Canadian nurse friend says) I think it is a Canadian thing. I found this on Google.

"Interventional Radiology (Angio). Medical Diagnostic Recovery Unit. Nuclear Medicine. Radiology Department."

I guess it is where patients go after various kinds of medical diagnostic imaging testing? Sounds interesting.

Is it like PACU? Are you recovering patients who've had a procedure with sedation?

We have an IR department. They do a ton of procedures.

Specializes in ED, med-surg, peri op.

I’ve heard of MAPU - medical assessment and planning unit.

Pt go there from ED that are acutely unwell for further investigations to get a diagnosis. Typically only there for 24-48 hours before being transferred to another unit when they have a better understanding of what’s going on.

Kind of like a extension of ED. To unwell for med/surg, to well for ICU, and needs more time than what ED can do.
