Published

I didn't see a topic for this cohort yet but the applications opened today, maybe we can keep in touch about any progress here!

So I got an email about the phone interviews they are conducting today, with more info on the residency. Does Medical City really only pay $1,000/bi-weekly?? That is extremely low (works out to $13/hr). They say it's because of the "value" of the program, but all other locals hospitals pay $26-28/hr for new grads even in the residency?

Maybe it's just during the "internship" phase. which is like 3 months for most specialties. I can't imagine they pay that low for the entirety of the contract.

During October they offered $2,000 bi-weekly during the internship phase so now I'm confused on the huge cut!

Yes it’s $1,000 per paycheck (biweekly) until you are finished with the internship. Typically anywhere from 14-18 weeks depending on what specialty you’re in. It is really low compared to everywhere else. Then it’s about $27-28/hr once the internship is over.

That's seriously wild though.. You can't even pay rent most places with that..

It definitely is. They loose a lot of good candidates based off of that. Not everyone can live off of that.

Exactly what I'm thinking! Currently working as an RN and trying to switch specialties. I can't take that huge cut.

It is just for internship, but that is still up to 6 months depending on specialty. I make more than that as a tech at a different hospital, so that's almost insulting that after years of hard work getting through nursing school they want to pay less than tech pay

This is what I was told as well! It’s so crazy especially for the DFW area with the cost of living. I would be moving from Tyler and the only way I would be able to make it work is moving in with family for that time until the internship period is over but not everyone has that option (and it isn’t exactly something I want to do if I don’t have to LOL) so its really hard to believe honestly.

Right! Like, I can make it work but it'll for sure be tight. That is so strange that they did such a HUGE cut between the last cohort and us..

And I totally feel you. I have two bachelors degrees and I for sure didn't get both of those to be making $13/hr anywhere..

Yeah I’m fortunate to have a husband that can support us but that’s not an option for a lot of people. Rent in the dfw area is about half of what you would get monthly if not more. Definitely not ideal and it would be incredibly difficult to live off of. It really is crazy.

I also wonder if we would get night and weekend pay since we’re not on an hourly pay base... or if we just don’t work those shifts during the internship.

From what I understand it’s a stipend. That means that there is no shift dif even if you work nights or weekend.
