medical careers in Air Force

I have a son in the Air Force, graduated from boot camp Aug. 11th, he is in Lackland AFB, TX. His original plan was special forces combat control. He hurt his back the first week, was out for days per DR. orders. He has decided maybe that is not where he should be, I think he was blown away at the physical intensity. Anyway, he is interested in medical related careers. He just turned 19. What options are there for him in Air Force training? He signed up for six years. I am graduating from RN program myself, told him maybe nursing? Any input would be appreciated, thank you in advance. :wink2:

As a newly applying student nurse I am not sure but, i do think that his ASVAB exam and his composite scores may play a role in where his MOS area is. Not sure at all since he hurt his back and cannot live up to his original contractual obligation, (is that right?)

Good luck to him in healing well with no residual back aches. I also hope that he can find the Air Force career that he will embrace.

Thanks for replying. His back was just severe muscle strain, he will be fine with no restrictions for future. They would let him start with the next combat control group, but he has decided against it, wants to be reassigned. What is MOS?

Good luck, I have no idea how this would work out because he has a contractual obligation in his current position.

He can ask all he wants for whatever he wants. The Airforce has ALL kinds of jobs. Med Tech, x-ray tech, almost anything you can find in the civilian sector, including photography, linguists ($60,000 bonus), and even flight attendants. Alot of it will come down to the original agreement, the physical qualifications, and of course the needs of the Air Force.
