MED-SURG RN's in the Hou,Cypress,Katy, Woodlands Area

Published

Hi,

I'm thinking about moving back to Houston & would like to know the number of patients MED-SURG RN's are assigned. The amount on a day shift & night shift in an acute hospital. Are there CNA/PCA's?Is there a secretary/clerk to take orders off? Does the charge RN take a full load of patients, a couple of pt's, or none? If there is anyone that work at the following hospitals to answer these questions that would be great.

LBJ & Ben Taub

Methodist(Willowbrook)

North Cypress Medical Ctr

Memorial-Hermann(Woodlands & Katy)

Texas Children's(Medical Ctr)

St. Luke's(Woodlands)

Thanks in advance.

I work for another of the MHHS facilities that's approximately the size of Woodlands. On the Med Surg unit, the nurse to patient ratio is about 1:5-6. There are PCA's, usually 2-3, on our 40 bed unit who do VS, ADL's, linen changes, etc. They have 1-2 unit clerks (the unit is split so there's usually one on each side if the unit is full) who take orders off, etc. The charge nurse usually does not take patients unless the staffing is short. I hear from nurses that come from other MHHS facilites that's about the norm.

Thanks cynr131. Well, that's about the norm for me in Cali on a Med-Surg/Onc floor. That's really good to know. I was afraid I might have 7-8 patients.Thank you again for replying.
