I am studying for my med-surg certification and wondered if anyone had any tips on what study guides to purchase? I am completing a course online through my employer, but wondered which books was the most helpful as far as test questions, etc.

The AMSN website has a few suggestions for course materials. I'm also studying for my exam, so I don't know which ones will be better for passing as I haven't tested, but I'm using and/or looking into the following based on AMSN's recommendations:
Mometrix's "Medical-Surgical Nurse Exam Practice Questions"
Pearson Reviews & Rationales: Medical-Surgical Nursing with "Nursing Reviews & Rationales" (3rd Edition)
Medical-Surgical Nursing Review Questions (3rd Edition) edited by Dottie Roberts
Core Cirriculum for Medical-Surgical Nursing (5th Edition)
Not even attempting to sit until August because I'm in grad school and want to wait for summer session to be over, so for now I've been using my old BSN texts to study (ignatavicius, m/s made incredibly easy, m/s demystified, kaplan reviews) until I finish paying for summer semester textbooks.

I took the CMSRN exam in November of 2015. My employer had paid for me to go to a two day review course at a local university hospital and that really helped, but when it came down to studying, I went back to my good ol Medical-surgical text book and I also went through a medical surgical question book, like one that someone would use in a medical-surgical course in college and that helped a lot because it went over every system and was easier for me to focus on the areas i'm not so strong in.

Ditto on studying. I used AMSN books/guides. Go over systems and you'll be fine.
AMSN supplies plenty and they are recorded straight into MSNCB, the credentialing website.
